Harvard Soccer (Part 11)

One Shot #36 (Cont.)

Moana's POV

That evening...

Maui's going to be here soon. I'm so nervous. This is our first real date since we became a couple. I've tried on four different outfits before settling on my current one. I want to look good and feel good tonight. I throw on my favorite pair of pumps to complete my outfit. Melody helped me do my makeup since I'm not the best at it. When I look at myself in the mirror, I look like a totally different person. Melody knows I have a date tonight, just not who it's with. I'll tell her in due time, but right now, Maui and I want to keep our relationship private.

Just as I do a double take in the mirror, my phone goes off. Melody looks at it curiously to see who it is. I grab it before she can see Maui's name light up the screen. I put a finger up to silence her as she starts squealing in the background. "I'll meet you out front love." I hear him mumble "Girls" into the phone before hanging up and giggle. I hug Melody goodbye and dash downstairs in my heels, nearly tripping down the stairs. When I open the wide double doors that lead to outside, I butt heads with Maui, literally. I look up at him in horror seeing a huge red mark right across his face. "Oh my god Maui I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" He gently pulls us apart with a smile on his face. "I'm fine princess." He studies me up and down and his jaw drops slightly, causing me to blush. "You look beautiful Moana. Breathtaking even I might add." I smile. "Thank you Maui. By the way, you look really nice. I've never seen you so dressed up before." Maui laughs. "I don't do it often so don't get used to it darling."

He helps me into the car like a gentleman and takes us to dinner, which I don't know where it is exactly. "Maui..." I say while pouting. "Where are we going?" Maui smirks back. "No can tell princess. It'd ruin the surprise. Let's just say it's somewhere you've always wanted to go." I can feel the excitement and anticipation building up by the minute.

Half an hour later...

Maui and I pull into the parking lot of... the oceanside Hyatt. I start to jump up and down in my seat like a five year old. "OH MY GOD MAUI! THIS IS AMAZING! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. GOD I LOVE YOU." Maui chuckles. "I've been wanting to take you here ever since you mentioned it to me at Joe's Diner." I gaze up at him happily and silently beg for a kiss. He gets the message and gives me a delicate one before leading me inside. We cut through the hotel lobby to get to the restaurant. A perky young guy seats us outside at an oceanside table. The view is breath taking. I bet the food will be great as well.

 Five minutes later...

Our waiter comes over to grant our order requests for both drinks and food. As I tell him what I want, I notice his gaze going to my chest and frown. Based on that alone, I can tell our waiter is a sex crazed maniac that I don't want to get thick with. Maui notices it to because he wraps his arms tightly around me while practically barking his order. The waiter dashes off in fear of Maui, promising to bring everything a timely fashion. Thankfully, he keeps his word and brings our drinks within three minutes and our food within fifteen minutes.

As I eat my amazing food, which is a garden salad and classic hamburger with fries while staring at the Boston skyline gleaming off the ocean, I'm memorized by tonight. The Hyatt is everything I'd hoped it be and more. I can see Maui staring at me out of the corner of my eye. "What are you staring at Maui?" He smirks. "You." I smirk back. "Why not at the ocean?" Maui shrugs playfully and gives me an innocent look. "The ocean's beautiful, but you're perfection." Gosh Maui makes me blush with nearly everything he says. He could say he has to use the bathroom and it would cause me to blush.

   After dinner...

We take a stroll along the harbor for a bit, holding hands and taking in the scenery the proper way. About halfway towards the boating area, Maui and I come to a halt. I look at him skeptically. "Why'd we stop Maui?" Maui then becomes...shy. I've never seen him shy before. "I-I-I have something to show you. It's a gift of sorts." I smile to ease his nerves. "I'd love to see it." Maui looks up at the sky and points. "See that star with all of the little stars around it." I nod. Maui then pulls out a piece of paper from his pocket and gives it to me. I open it carefully, as it's been folded enough already, and read it. As my eyes scan the paper, I see that it's a star naming certificate. Tears prickle my eyes as the realization dawns on me. "Maui, you named a star after me? That's literally the sweetest and most amazing thing anyone has ever done for me."

Maui pulls me close and looks deep into my eyes. "I did for two reasons. One of them being that you've completely stolen my heart and the other being that you're a star Moana. I've noticed that you sometimes hold back from showcasing your full potential out of fear, but I wanted this to encourage you to shine bright and stand out. Don't hold back to spare anyone's feelings. You have so much going for you in the near future. I want nothing but success for you. I'm just honored that I'll get to see you grow with my own eyes over the next few years at Harvard and hopefully beyond."

I grab a hold of his hands and take them in mine. "Maui, when I think of my future, such as when I graduated Harvard. Do you know what I see?" He gives me a confused look and shakes his head no. I smile. "Well I'll tell you what I see. I see myself landing a job in the field that I've been dreaming of since childhood, continuing to carry on my love of soccer somehow, and us living together in our dream place. My future has included you from our very first encounter. You shook me up and began to change me. I don't hate myself as much when I'm with you. You make me feel safe, comfortable, and loved. I'd been played by so many guys during my teen years I didn't think I'd ever meet a true man. Well guess what, I did. You're that true man and I'm so happy you allowed me to steal your heart, though I must confess that you stole mine too."

Maui closes the gap between us. He tips me over gently on his knee and kisses me like we're characters in a Nicholas Sparks book/movie. It's the best kiss we've had yet. Plus, it's pretty romantic considering we're by the ocean and under the stars.
