One Shot #7

Maui's POV

    The next day...

     Moana refuses to get up on her own and go talk to her parents about her decision, so I drag her out of bed gently, help her get ready, and head with her to her parents' hut for moral support. I'll only interrupt the conversation gets out of hand and they start verbally and/or physically attacking Moana. I reassuringly put a hand on Moana's shoulder. "Take a deep breath Mo. I'm sure they'll understand and if they don't, then they'll come around in time. Your parents love you so much. They could never hate you, no one could." She kisses me on the cheek, causing heat to rush to my cheeks. 

      Her parents greet me with a friendly hello and smile each before shifting their attention to Moana. I nudge her forward so she can talk to them properly. I stand in the sidelines and listen to her every word. "Mother, father, there's something I need to tell you. I've been contemplating this for awhile with careful thought and consideration, but I don't want to be chief anymore." They look at her in shock, exactly as I did yesterday. Clearly no one saw this coming, which breaks my heart a little. It goes to show that no one, me included, has been able to see how much pain she's been in. Her mother is the first one to speak. "Well we're certainly shocked by this, but if that's what you want, then you don't have to be chief anymore. We love you so much. We just want you to be happy. If being a voyager makes you happy, then be a voyager." 

     Relief runs through me as I see Moana instantly light up, jumping into her parents arms, giving them the tightest hugs I've ever seen a human being give to someone else. She then comes running into my arms and I hug her equally tight. Her father then gives me a small smile. "Take care of our daughter when you're out on the open ocean. It can often be a dangerous place." "I would never let anything happen to Moana. I'd take my own life if it meant saving her. She's everything to me. I mean after all, I'm madly in love with her." 

       Moana's parents smirk as if they've known that all along with Moana stands there speechless. "Really?" I nod sheepishly. "I'm not expecting you to feel the same way about me, but I just needed to say it aloud. It was driving me mad not being able to----- Moana interrupts me planting a kiss on my lips, causing me to grin from ear to ear. "I feel the way about you Maui. I'm in love with you too." "Really?" She smiles. "Really. Now let's go back out on the ocean, it's calling us." I grab a hold of her hand. "Lets."
