A Weaker Version (Part 1)
One Shot #9
Moana's POV
I just said my last words to my Gramma Tala and she said her last words to me as I sat by her beside and watched the life drain out of her. I heard the sound of her final breath and and watched her flat line before my very eyes. Her last words of all things happened to be "Go find Maui and restore the heart of Te Fiti." I plan on following that wish, which is why I'm heading out right now. I have all of my supplies, food, drinks, and clothes packed for the voyage. It'll take me a few days to get there. I left a note for my parents not to panic and telling them I'll be back soon. I untie my boat from the dock, grab my oar, and sail out onto the open ocean.
The ocean chose me for this voyage, but honestly, I don't know why. I've never been out farther than the shoreline of Montonui, yet here I am at just sixteen years old sailing across the ocean to find Maui, demigod of the wind and sea. I've heard all sorts of stories about him so I have no idea what I should expect when I find him. Hopefully he won't be too difficult to deal with.
As I get further and further out from Montonui, a strange feeling washes over me. I don't know how to describe it. It's not bad, but it's not great either. I guess it's just weird to finally be doing what I've been dreaming of doing for years. Ever since I was a toddler, I just knew that the ocean was where I needed to be. The fact that is trusts me to complete such an important task speaks wonders.
Time Skip... Five Days Later...
I spot Maui's famous fish hook in the sky, which indicates that I'm almost there. I follow it to the very end and low and behold, Maui's island comes into a view. I do a victory dance, celebrating the fact that I got here all in one piece. I sail over a few big waves and glide into the shore. There's no dock on the island unfortunately so I settle on the nearest tree and tie my boat up to it with a rope. I cautiously make my way deeper into the island and stop when I come to an ominous looking cave. I hear from odd sounding mumbling coming from inside it. I take a deep breath and head inside. "Hello, is anyone here?" I hear that same mumbling, except it's getting louder as I head in deeper.
When I make my way to the very back of it, I'm face to face with... Maui. My heart begins to race in fear. Though when he looks up at me, he replicates the same fear that's on my face, causing me to be a bit taken aback. He puts his hands up and backs up all the way against the wall behind him. "I don't know who you are or what you want, but please don't hurt me." My fear then turns to shock. This isn't the Maui I heard about in the stories. This is a much more timid and weakened version of him. "My name's Moana and I'm not going to hurt you. Though, I do need you to come with." He nods and quickly jumps to his feet, following me out of the cave and down to the shore where my boat is still sitting. "I'll go with you Moana, but can you at least tell me where we're going." I give him a small smirk. "Why to restore the Heart of Te Fiti of course."
