Defended By An Upperclassman (Part 2)

One Shot #3 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

Throughout the rest of the first day of school, I help Moana find the rest of her classes, which by some miracle, we happen to share two more in addition to World History Part 2, those classes being Algebra 1 and Biology. See I'm not the best student so I'm placed in lower level classes with the exception of gym and writing, which are my strong subjects. It's not that I purposely don't do anything like Dan'i and his band of idiots do. I just struggle immensely in history, math, and science. I always go for extra help in those subjects every week, but it still doesn't make much of a difference. I've already been held back once. I don't want to be held back again. The first time made me feel dumb enough.

Despite being the second oldest in a majority of my five classes, I'm happy to have someone like Moana in them. Besides her, I only have one other friend, which happens to my cousin Malo. He's a senior. He's also a whiz compared to me in school. I envy how everything comes so easily to him. Speaking of whizs, Moana seems to be one too. We did a practice sheet in Algebra 1 earlier and Moana was able to finish it all in five minutes. She was the first one to finish and handed in the sheet. "Moana?" "Hmm?" I smile down at her. "Not only as you super pretty and nice, but you're super smart too." I scratch the back of my head. "I might be going to you for extra help this year." She blushes. Gosh she's adorable. Of course I don't want to say that aloud in case that makes her feel weird. I've just never seen a girl appreciate basic compliments so much. In a way, that's sad because it shows how little she gets complimented. She deserves all the compliments in the world. I've known her for a day and I'm practically in love with the girl.

The loud bell rings, indicating the beginning of dismissal. I promised my cousin Malo I'd go over his house today after school. "Listen Moana, I promised my cousin I'd go over to his house today so I have to meet him at his locker, but before I go, I want to give you my number. Do you happen to have a piece of paper?" She nods and rips a piece out of one of her notebooks. I write down my name along with my number and hand it to her. "Text me later. I want to know that you got home safely and that your evening is going well." She smiles and does something unexpected... she pulls me in for a hug. I feel the heat rushing to my cheeks and realize that I'm blushing. I've never blushed before. This feels so strange, but it feels right knowing that a girl like Moana is the cause of it.

This one shot is going to be a multi-parter. I know that that's probably not even a word, but oh well. Each of the imagines in this series will vary in length, time periods, plot, etc. -Mary
