Going Green (Part 7)

One Shot #33 (Cont.)

Maui's POV

I've had to fill out a series of paperwork and endure a painful interview before officially being admitted as a "patient" of S.H.I.E.L.D. That's how they're referring to me anyway. In reality, I'm just a test monkey. I bet after this is over, they'll replay footage of me shifting just to gawk at how much of a freak I am. I adore Moana, but I don't want to be with her until I'm officially rid of this monster. With this monster in my body, I can't give her what she truly deserves, which is happiness.

Coulson leads me down the hall to my quarters with Moana following close behind. Our moment is still on my mind, despite it happening hours ago. As we get to my oh so lovely two by four room, Coulson's face shifts to a slightly grim expression. "I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Moana has to leave now. You have to get some rest for a bit and then we have some tests to run. I'll give you a few minutes to talk in private." I give Coulson a nod and watch him go down the hall to god knows where. Moana laughs sadly. "So this where I have to stay goodbye. It's almost like watching you be wheeled into an OR by a bunch of doctors." I laugh sadly myself. "That's an interesting way to look at it." I can see that she's on the verge of tears. A few manage to straggle out and I wipe them away before they hit the ground. "This isn't goodbye forever. You'll come tomorrow right?"

"Of course Maui. I'll come everyday. You mean that much to me." I wrap my arms around her and kiss her on the forehead. "Listen Moana, before you go, I want you to know I meant every word of what I said earlier. I do want you to be my girlfriend when I get out of here." She smiles up at me. "I know that you meant it Maui. I want to be your girlfriend more than anything in this world." I chuckle. "Even more than eating a pepperoni pizza?" Moana giggles. "Yes Maui, even more than eating a pepperoni pizza." I lean my forehead against hers for a couple of minutes before Coulson gently forces us to pull apart. I groan at him for having ruined our moment. Moana waves goodbye to me and I do the same. I stand in my spot and watch Moana until she's out of sight. When she is, I plop down onto my pathetic excuse of a bed and get some much needed sleep.
