Paths Cross

"We have to stop meeting like this, Madeline. One might begin to wonder if you are following me."

Maddie scowled. "One could say the same about you."

Everywhere Maddie seemed to turn, every time she'd ventured out alone, she was there.
Alysha.

God, Maddie wanted to wipe that smug smirk off her face. Her face that wasn't even her own. A face that rang too familiar to be comfortable with.

Alysha chuckled. "Touche. But I promise you now, that I have not been seeking you out. You have my word on that."

"Yes, because your word means everything." Maddie said, rolling her eyes.

Alysha laughed. "A little trust goes a long way, Darling.
But a wise person doesn't spend it frivolously."

Maddie raised an eyebrow sceptically. "Just curious, are you high? Because that would make a lot of sense right now."

"Those who jump to conclusions don't often reach answers." Alysha purred, tapping Maddie lightly on the nose like one might a naughty puppy.
It was kind of funny, being that Alysha was several inches shorter than Maddie, who was having to look down to see the girls face.

Maddie rolled her eyes again. "Someone buy you the 'Big Book of Confucious Quotes' for Christmas or something?
Just speak clearly, for God's sake, because no one knows what you're saying, and it doesn't make you sound deep, it just makes you sound crazy."

"Crazy? Oh, honey... I'm the one-eyed chick in the kingdom of the blind.

Anyway, whilst we're here, and getting along so well..." Her smile showed too many teeth.
"Can I show you something?"

Maddie gave her a look. "No."

"Okay." Alysha shrugged, cheery demeanour not changing in the slightest, which completely threw Maddie.
"Anyhow, got to run, it was lovely seeing you..."

"Wait, what?" Maddie was super confused now. And suspicious. Definitely suspicious. "You're just going?"

"Yes, it's allowed."

"No, I mean... You're not even... What was it you wanted to show me?"

"It's fine." Alysha waved it away, smiling pleasantly. "You said no. I can respect that."

"Yes, but it's you. Now I'm concerned."

"Aw, didn't know you cared." Alysha teased.
"But no, the moments gone. Fluttered away on the breeze.
But perhaps next time, my Darling Madeline, perhaps next time. Certain paths cross for a reason."
