"Your family seems to like me."

"Won 'em over with your charms, did you?" Nyx said, chuckling wearily as joined her, sitting crossed legged on the living room floor.

He chuckled, slinging an arm over her shoulders. "Call me Jay. Chris Jay."

Nyx gave him a look. "That is awful."

He laughed.

She mock-pouted. "And you're having way too much fun with this."

"Heh. But your family's nice."

"... Nick's probably plotting your 'disappearance'."

He nudged her playfully, and she laughed. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding! I hope."

"Like he could take me anyway."

"Sure, sure." She chuckled, rolling her eyes.
"Hey, Abby. Hey." She called to the little girl across the room, giving a little wave.

"Hey! Hey! Hey!" Abby squeaked back, waving enthusiastically. "Hey! Hey!"

"She's talking already?" 'Chris' said surprised, face lighting up.

Nyx chuckled. "Hey, Abby." She said, picking up the girls toy bear, and holding it out. "What's this, huh? Is it Teddy? Want Teddy?"

"Teddy!" Abby squealed, stumbling forwards onto her hands and knees in her excitement to get the toy.

"Clever girl!" Nyx cooed as Abby, pulling the little girl onto her lap, bear and all. "Yeah, she's learning. Come on really far, too."

"Ice-cweam!"

"Shh, later."

"Ice cweam!"

"Vegetables.
... That caught you out, didn't it?"

"She's sulking with you now." 'Chris' chuckled. "Bad mummy."

"I'm the best mummy." She laughed; then paused, clearing her throat. "I would be, anyway."

There was an awkward silence.

"So... Uh, what's... What's the plan? Are you just staying here now, or...? Because..."

"I've got somewhere. Or at least, I've got a plan to find somewhere."

Nyx nodded, looking reassured. "That's good. I mean, not that I don't want you here... Now that sounds like I don't want you here." She laughed, embarrassed. "I'm glad you've got somewhere... Can get somewhere... Glad you're going to be okay. You are going to be okay, right? I want you to be alright."

Grinning, he kissed her on the forehead, then migrated down to her lips. "Aw, you concerned about me? Don't worry, I'll be fine."

"You better." Nyx smiled against his lips. "Or else I'll be most upset."

"Duly noted."

That evening, Dec was cleaning glasses at the bar, when Sebastian walked in.
Grinning, he put down the glass and leant on the worktop, looking at his guest expectantly.
Sebastian feigned disinterested, looking around the room for a second, before turning back. "So, about that house..."
