"Mommy, she stinks." Christopher huffed, as he followed me into the small bedroom that our newest foster daughter was staying in. This time she was a baby, however, and Christopher absolutely hated it.
"I still have to change her diaper, Chris. Why don't you go do your homework." I smiled a bit, but he frowned.
"When is she leaving? I don't like Marlee." He huffed.
"Soon. Her adoptive parents are going to be in town soon and can get her. They just didn't know that she would be born before they got here." I replied, as I laid the small girl down and started to change her diaper.
This time it was easier on Elliot and me to foster a baby because we knew she had parents. They had been away on business when the birth mother had gone into labor, so Vicky placed her with us until they can get here.
"Mommy, when I get a baby brother or sister, they'll be better, right?" He asked, and I laughed softly.
"What do you mean by better, Chrissy?" I mused.
"Like they won't be so boring because they will be ours, right?" He asked, and I smiled.
"Of course. Stablers are always exciting. Now, go see if Daddy is home yet."

"Mommy, Grandma and Daddy are here!" Christopher yelled from where he was in the living room working on homework. I was standing in the kitchen making a bottle for Marlee, but with the sudden screaming, the small girl started to cry.
"Go let them in, and get Aunt Cy!" I exclaimed, as I quickly started to cry and calm the little girl down.
By the time Elliot, Serena, Christopher, and Cynthia were all in the house, Marlee was calm and eating.
"Hey." Elliot smiled, as he came into the kitchen. He sat Serena's bag down on the counter, before stepping forward and kissing me gently. He took Marlee from me and went to finish feeding her.
I watched as Serena carried Chris into the house, and he was already talking her ear off.
Shortly after I saw Serena in rehab, Elliot and I made a huge choice. We decided to bring Chris there to meet her. She needed a place to stay once she was out, and since we didn't want her living in a halfway house and possibly getting high again, we decided to let her stay with us. She was going to share the garage apartment with Cy, and during the day she'd either be working or going to meetings to stay sober from both drugs and booze. Chris being the sweet little boy he is, just absolutely fell in love with Serena. He couldn't stop talking about meeting his other grandmother.
"Hey, Mom." I smiled, and Serena looked at me and grinned.
"Hey, love. Thank you so much again for letting me live here. It means a lot." She spoke, as Cynthia walked passed her and my son, before coming over to me. She grabbed my arm and dragged me towards the garage which made everyone confused.
[*]
Cynthia just stared at me for like five straight minutes without saying anything. I didn't know why she wanted to talk or whatever this is, or even if she expected me to start the conversation.
"Cy, what's wrong?" I frowned.
"I thought I'd be okay with Mom staying here, but I don't know anymore." She breathed, and I sighed.
"She needs a place where she can be supported. If she doesn't get the support she needs, she'll turn right back to drugs." I breathed.
"Aren't you just a little scared about having an addict here? Like around Chris? He loves to snoop and get into stuff, so what if she brings drugs into the house and he finds them?" She asked, and I felt my heart start to beat quicker.
"I didn't even think about that," I whispered, as I reached up and started to play with the same exact cross necklace that Elliot gave me on the day of Owen's funeral.
"Liv, she can afford a place to stay, and you know it. And you don't want to be caught up in a whole drug issue with foster children here, and you and Elliot both work for the NYPD. What if they found out?" She questioned, and I swallowed hard. I looked back at the closed kitchen door and frowned.
"I don't want to push her over the edge," I whispered.
"Either kick her out or give her rules that she must obey or she's gone."

I got really caught up in what Cynthia said all night, but I was thankful that at about ten, Marlee's adoptive parents showed up. They stayed for a bit as I explained her sleep routine, feeding schedule, and certain little quirks about their baby that may help them get a good start. After they thanked Elliot and myself, Elliot and I went upstairs and laid down. I turned off the baby monitor that we bought, and just laid back and looked at the ceiling.
"Well, I guess it was a good thing that we had Marlee as a foster kid because then we bought all of the baby stuff early." Elliot smiled, as he draped his arm across my body and pulled me close.
"Liv?" Elliot asked when I didn't respond to him. I was so tempted on using the excuse that we had work in the morning and I needed to sleep instead of talking, but tears started to stream down my cheeks as I continued to overwhelm myself with thinking about Chris getting into drugs that Serena might hide, and him getting horribly sick from it.
"Oh, love. Why are you crying?" Elliot asked.
"I don't think we can have Serena staying here." I sobbed, as I sat up and pulled my legs to my chest.
"Why not?" Elliot asked, as he wrapped his arms around me and held me close.
"Because I'm scared that Chris is going to get hurt."
"How?"
"What if he goes into the garage apartment and finds drugs? He's only four, and I can't risk him. I just can't." I spoke, as I started to shake. Elliot held me even tighter in his arms as my sobs continued to wrack my body.
"Okay, I'll find her a place to stay. I'm sure there is a place she can afford while working at the bookstore." Elliot breathed as he kissed my temple gently.
"Do you think she'll get angry at me?" I sniffled, and Elliot shook his head.
"You can talk to her, mother to mother. We have a kid to think of now, and even if she was a shitty mother, she has to understand that just a little bit."
