"Your blood pressure is high, but the pains you are feeling are just practice contractions. This isn't the real deal yet." Dr. Maddison spoke, as she stood at the end of my bed. She had rushed up here after one of the ER doctors called her, and I was thankful because I trusted her and felt more comfortable with her around.
"Is my baby okay? Having high blood pressure can't be a good sign." I frowned, as I glanced over at the door to see if Elliot was here yet, but he had called my phone and since Bernie had it, she found out that he was stuck in traffic because there had been an accident up ahead of him.
"Are you stressed, Olivia? Because medically, I don't think there is a reason why your blood pressure is high. I believe it's just stress."
"My son is going back to school and I'm worried about that because he might be made fun of because of his leg braces. And then I'm so tired of being pregnant. And I saw my mother in law for the first time in like 19 weeks..."
"Okay, well, there are the reasons. I'd really like you to try and relax as much as you can. Being a mother is stressful, and I know that first hand. But your son will do great in school, and you are going to be having your baby soon, and in regards to your mother in law, maybe it's a good thing. You never know. I'm going to continue giving you fluids and I'm going to keep you here until the Braxton Hicks contractions go away. I'll talk to your husband when he gets here and then send him in. Get some rest."
[*]
The Braxton Hicks contractions get worse as the hours went on. And they got closer together. Elliot arrived about four hours after I got here, and right in the middle of one of them. Tears were running down my cheeks as I held onto the sides of my hospital bed. If these were supposed to be easier to handle compared to the real contractions, I'm screwed. I can barely handle the ones that are supposed to help prepare me for what was to come!
"Liv?" Elliot whispered as he walked into my room. There was an empty bed closer to the window but thankfully no one had been moved in here yet.
I didn't respond to my husband as more tears worked their way down my cheeks. He quickly walked to where I laid and loosened my grip on the handles and he lets me hold his hand. As the pain faded away, I opened my eyes and looked at him.
"Hey..." I whispered, and he leaned in and kissed my lips softly.
"How are you doing?"
"I'm doing okay. I'm just ready to go home. Where is Chrissy?" I questioned, as I ran my hands over my cheeks to get rid of the tears.
"He's at home with Cynthia. Serena is here and my Mom is still here." He spoke, and I sighed.
"She just showed up out of nowhere. She said she wanted to see us, but El... why now? Why now when Meredith is so close to coming?" I asked as I reached for my water cup. Elliot grabbed it for me and stood to refill it, before handing it back to me.
"I don't know, babe. I have no idea why she decides to stress you out right now. I told her to go home and that I'd call her when we had more news, but she won't leave." He sighed.
"I used to love having your mother around. She was such a comfort, but now I don't want her here. My blood pressure is high because I'm stressed out. Chris isn't getting his leg braces off for nearly two more months, and I'm still scared of having Meredith, and now your mother shows up." I frowned, before drinking the water from the cup. Elliot reached out and pushed a few stray pieces of hair away from my forehead and sighed.
"I'll get her to go home, alright? I promise. Now, do you want your Mom?"
"Yeah, I want my Mom."

I was released about one in the morning, and Bernie had refused to leave. We drove her back to our house, and after Elliot and I went into the house we heard my mother and Bernie start to yell at each other. So much for a stress-free environment.
"Are you kidding me?" Elliot huffed, as he walked out of the front door. I followed him, even if he probably would've yelled at me if he saw me following him.
"You let your freaking daughter treat your son and my daughter like shit. Do you even want to be apart of Meredith's and Chrissy's lives?" Serena yelled as I leaned against the door.
"I want to be a part of their lives, but Josie needed us! She's going through a hard time!" Bernie yelled as she started Serena down. Elliot walked over and grabbed my mother's arm and sighed.
"Serena, why don't you go inside and sit with Liv. I can do this." He spoke gently. Serena nodded as she looked back at Bernie before she turned and walked towards me.
"Liv-"
"Bernie, I don't want you here anymore. I'm sorry, but I'm not supposed to be stressed! I'm supposed to be trying to relax so that my blood pressure can go back down to a normal level. It's been a while since we saw you, and now you want to be involved in our lives? Well, it's not the best time. So if you don't mind, leave." I spoke, before turning and walking into my house. My mother quickly followed me inside.
"Liv I'm so sorry, love. I didn't mean to hurt you." She breathed, and I shook my head as I turned around and wrapped my arms around my mother as I started to cry.
"You didn't hurt me, Mom! I'm just so tired of everything, and Bernie had to come back right now. As if she wanted to just mess everything up for us! To hurt me! I just don't know anymore. I just want her gone so I can try and get back to normal. Okay..." I whispered as I held onto her.
"Oh, love. Come on, you need sleep. Let's go."
