Elliot and his mother argued for nearly an hour, as I laid in bed and tried not to cry. My mother was sitting next to me and she caressed my hair gently as we listened to everything that was said. For some reason, pretty much out of the blue, Bernie yelled that she hated me. I've known her for over 14 years and now she hates me?
"Mom?" I asked as I shifted a bit.
"Yeah, Liv?" She asked.
"You love me, right? Like you don't hate me for not bailing you out and helping with getting you a lawyer?" I asked.
"I love you so much, Olivia. And I don't hate you. I had a lot of time to think about what I was losing when I chose to get high and drunk because I'd rather be here with you, Cy, Elliot, and my grandbabies. I'd rather know what day it is." She breathed before she leaned down and kissed the top of my hair gently.
"I have to go shopping tomorrow to get stuff for Christopher, would you mind coming with us? To try and keep Christopher well behaved and under control?" I asked, and she nodded.
"Yeah, I can do that. I'd do anything for you."
[*]
The next morning Elliot got up and left to head to work early. I knew he was angry because he tossed and turned all night and I really don't think he slept at all. He left before I had gotten up, but I knew he just needed space, and I was willing to give it to him for a while, just until it was time for Meredith to arrive.
"So, are you going to make this easier on me this time?" I asked Christopher as I helped him down from the van. Serena stood next to the car, and she smiled when Christopher nodded.
"I promise, Momma. No more stress?" He questioned, as he tested to see if the word was correct.
"Yeah, no more stress. Come here, baby. Let's go get you some pants that don't look like you are preparing for a flood."
We walked into the store and picked out clothes that would fit Chris. He found some t-shirts that he liked and he didn't put up a fuss when I had him try on a few jackets so he could have one for fall and an even lighter one for cold mornings at the beginning of the school year.
He got two pairs of shoes and then we took a break for lunch. But of course, where Christopher wanted to sit in the packed food court, Josie and Bernie were over there.
"Shit," I whispered, as I helped Chris to sit down.
"What?" Serena asked, and I shifted a bit.
"Uh, my stress is here." I frowned.
"Oh." Serena huffed, and I nodded.
"Mom, I'm just going to get Chrissy's food and then he can eat real quick and we can leave."
"You were complaining about being hungry too," Serena replied, and I nodded.
"Well, yeah, but I can wait to eat. I just want to get out of here."
[*]
I waited in line for Christopher's chicken tenders, when someone touched my shoulder. I turned around and frowned when I saw Josie there.
"I'm supposed to stay stress-free, and having you right here is causing stress," I spoke.
"Liv, come on." She spoke, and I shook my head.
"You said some pretty shitty things to me. You wished for things that anyone with a heart wouldn't dare do. Chris has to use braces to walk, and some of his words still slur together. I'm going to be having a baby soon, and I do not need for you to get so many horrible things off your chest to make you feel good, and to make me feel bad." I spoke, before turning around and moving up a spot.
"Mom just went to your house to see you all. Don't you think that you should apologize to her? She was-"
"She said she hated me last night. So, I don't think that is going to happen. Now, if you aren't waiting for food, please get away from me."
[*]
All of the school shopping got done by 3 in the afternoon, so we could finally go home. When we got there, Elliot was home and stood up from where he was sitting on the front porch.
"How'd the shopping go?" Elliot asked as I climbed out of the van.
"Good. He got a dinosaur backpack, not a rainbow one." I smirked, and he laughed softly. He walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my body before kissing me softly.
"I'm sorry about not saying anything to you when I left this morning. I swear it will never happen again." Elliot reassured me.
"It's okay, El. Fighting with a parent really sucks, trust me." I spoke, as I snaked my arms around his neck. He held me by my waist and nodded.
"Yeah, it was fun when you lived with me, though." He chuckled.
We kissed a few more times before Christopher pulled Elliot away from me and showed him all of his clothes and the fancy pencils he insisted on getting.
"Gonna tell him about Josie?" Serena asked as she handed me my purse.
"No. Not now, probably not later. He's okay right now. He doesn't need to know about it because I dealt with it and I didn't break her nose this time."

"You look amazing!" I exclaimed as Cynthia came into the kitchen and twirled around. I zipped up Christopher's lunch box before walking over to my sister.
"Gil said that we were going somewhere special, so I just stole one of your dresses. Clearly from before Meredith." She smirked, and I rolled my eyes.
"You look amazing, Cy. And you cannot stop talking about Gil. It's like you are a teenage girl again, and this time you aren't asking me if Elliot had any friends that weren't teen dads." I sighed, as I leaned against the counter.
"Please do not tell Gil that. I really like him, and you know, I may want to be with him long term." She smiled, before handing me her necklace. She turned around and I put her necklace on before turning her around to look at me.
"I love you, Cy." I spoke, and she smiled.
"I love you too. Now, make sure that you don't have Meredith tonight because I'm planning on having fun!" She exclaimed, and I nodded.
"I'll try, but tomorrow is my due date, and you never know!" I exclaimed.
Cynthia kissed my cheek before going into the living room and up the stairs. I knew she was saying goodnight to Chris and wishing him good luck with school tomorrow.
"Did you tell her?" Elliot asked as he walked into the kitchen from out in the garage.
"That I'm having contractions? No. She deserves to have fun. I'm going to bed soon, gotta try and get some sleep."
