After Christopher allowed himself to be a brat for a day, he went back to being the sweet little boy that we originally fell in love with. We still loved him when he was a brat, but he was just cuter when he was being sweet.
"Alright, so Lea, do you want to ride along with Elliot when he takes Chris to school?" I asked my foster daughter, as I sat on the floor in front of Chris and tried to get the knots out of his shoelaces. He thought that just tying a bunch of knots was the same as the way a normal person ties shoes.
"Can I go to school, Olivia?" She asked, and I frowned as I looked over at her.
"I'm sorry, sweetie. You can't go back to your old school. Our babysitter will be over to watch you because Elliot and I have to go to work."
"Please, Olivia! I want to go back to school!" She cried, and I frowned deeply.
"Let me call your caseworker." I breathed, before standing and giving Chris his shoes back."
[*]
After the caseworker and I talked for about an hour, I was allowed to take Lea to her school. It was a private school, and since it was a private school I could ask them to make sure her parents didn't get near her, due to the current investigation.
After dropping Lea off, I drove to my precinct and got into the squad room as Fin was leaving.
"Oh, there you are. We have to talk to Warner. Want to go?" Fin asked, and I nodded.
"Yeah, I just have to grab my gun," I spoke, and Fin eyed me.
"Why don't you have it on you?" He asked, and I smiled a bit.
"I wasn't here yesterday because Elliot and I got a foster daughter." I smiled, and he laughed.
"So just being a good foster mother. Gotcha. I'll meet you in the sedan."
[*]
We had a small case where someone attacked a cab driver because he drove away with the woman's daughter still in the car. It was a small misunderstanding, and I was out of work by 6.
I drove home and once I parked my car in the garage, I heard Chris squealing 'Mommy' over and over again. I opened the door, and my son stood there smiling at me.
"Hi, Mommy!" He exclaimed, and I smiled before climbing out of my car.
"Hey, love. How was school?" I mused, as I picked him up and hugged him close.
"Good! I already got my homework done, and Daddy said after dinner, we can go get ice cream!" He exclaimed, and I laughed.
"Awesome! I'm proud of you darling. Thanks for being a good boy today." I spoke, as I pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead.
"Daddy also said you had a call," Chris spoke, as we walked into the house. I sat him on his feet before I could question him, and he went sprinting up the stairs where I'm assuming Lea was waiting for him.
"I have a call?" I asked my husband, as I sat my to-go cup on the counter, and walked towards him.
"From your Serena," Elliot spoke, and my eyes went wide.
"What? She called?" I asked, and Elliot nodded.
"Yeah, she said she wanted you to call back. She can talk till 10 tonight." Elliot spoke, and I nodded slowly.
"Alright, well let's eat dinner, and I'll call when the kids go to bed."
[*]
I ate dinner with my husband and the kids, and then when they went out for ice cream, I decided to stay back. I needed to talk to her now because I don't know if I will have enough courage to do it later.
I settled onto the couch in my living room and pulled a blanket onto my lap. I dialed the number Elliot wrote down and put it to my ear as it started to ring.
"Oak Lane Rehabilitation, this is Jan."
"Hello, I'm Olivia Benson. My mother called me and said to call her back. Is Serena Benson there?" I questioned.
"Yes, I'll connect you to her room phone. Please wait."
I waited as some stupid music played and after a few long moments, Serena answered.
"Hello?" She questioned, and I swallowed hard.
"Mom, it's me, Liv." I breathed. Her side of the call went completely silent.
"You called back." She breathed.
"I did," I replied awkwardly.
"How are you doing? Are you doing okay? Your sister? Is Cy still finishing up school and working at the hospital?" She asked.
"We both are doing okay. Are you good?" I breathed.
"I'm good. I'm not getting high anymore. I'm going to therapy."
"That's good. Uh, when are you getting out?" I questioned slowly.
"In a few months. But I have to have someone be my sponsor. I need someone to help me stay sober."
"Mom-"
"I need a place to stay." She whispered, and I frowned.
"Mom, I have a son," I spoke, and she went completely silent.
"How? I've only been in here for like 5 months. Were you preg-"
"Mom, we adopted him. I wasn't pregnant and lied to you about it. Elliot and I adopted him because his mother was murdered."
"Have you told him about me?" She asked.
"No, we haven't. I don't want to bring everything up to him about you when I don't even know if you will be apart of his life."
"Olivia, I'm good. Please... I want to be apart of my grandson's life." She whimpered. I could hear the tears in her voice, and I didn't know why I felt bad for her.
"I know mom... I know. Can you have visitors? Because if you can, I'll come up once our foster daughter goes back to her parents, and then I'll come to see you. Okay?"
"Okay. I love you, Liv. Tell Cy that I love her too, okay?"
"I will. And I love you too, Mom."
[*]
Elliot brought the kids home and we had to let them run around outside for about an hour before they were tired. We put the kids to bed, and then we went to bed ourselves. Elliot started to fall asleep, while I stared up at the ceiling as tears welled in my eyes.
"Babe? Are you going to sleep?" Elliot asked, and I frowned.
"I said that I'd go and see Serena once Lea is back with her parents, but I don't know why I said that."
"Scared of getting hurt and disappointed again?"
"Yeah, but I'm really scared about having Chris get hurt. He's our kid, and I can't just think about you and me anymore, I have to think about him too."
"Going to see her once isn't going to cause you any pain. Just go and test the waters. If something seems off, you don't have to see her again."
