Elliot carried Meredith's carrier into our lawyer's office. Mary had been nervous when she left for school this morning because she didn't know if our lawyer would really give us the okay to adopt her.
"Let's hope that Mere sleeps through this all." I sighed, as I opened the door for Elliot.
"I hope so too. Especially since we can't reschedule this because on Monday we are back at work." Elliot replied.
"Is it bad that I'm not excited to go back? That I almost just want to stay home and spend more time with our kids?"
"No, because I feel the same," Elliot spoke.
"We need to get out of parent land and get back into being big tough detectives." I sighed.
Elliot and I walked straight into our lawyer's office, and he stood up and smiled.
"Surprisingly right on time." He laughed.
"We try." I grinned. I sat down and Elliot sat down on the chair beside me and put the carrier between us.
"So, how is Mary?" Dwayne asked.
"She's great. She was nervous this morning because she doesn't want to be disappointed." I spoke.
"Well, there is no need for that. We talked to her brother, Kevin, and her parents have been dead for several years. He doesn't want to stop the adoption or cause any issues. She's going to be your daughter by the end of the month."
"Really? Dwayne, you aren't joshing us, right?" Elliot asked as he leaned forward.
"No, I'm not. Everything is in order. This is a cleaner case than the one where you adopted Christopher. I'm working with the court to get you a date, but it should be before the end of this month. In a week or so there will be a home visit to make sure your house is in good enough shape for another child, and then all the hoops have been jumped through."
"This is amazing. I can't believe it!" I exclaimed, before looking over at my husband. He smiled before leaning over to kiss me. As we parted, Dwayne grinned.
"This has been the best case I've worked on. And you two are probably the best parents I've worked with. Congrats, it's a girl."

Elliot and I went home with Meredith and pulled out the gift that we had bought everyone when we started the adoption process.
"So, we bought five, right?" Elliot asked, as he looked at the smallest box that had a onesie that said Stabler on it for Meredith.
"Yes, we bought five." I laughed softly, as I lifted my daughter out of her carrier and walked over to her playpen. I laid her on her belly, but she rolled over and sat up as soon as I walked away.
"Maybe we should've brought seven or something."
"Why seven?" I asked, and my husband shrugged.
"I want more kids. Then we would've had a small stock of them for when there was another baby."
"You literally love procreating, don't you?" I teased, and he nodded slowly.
"But look at how beautiful our kid is!"
"Liv?" A voice spoke, and I turned to see my mother walking down the stairs.
"Mom! What are you doing here? I thought you had another month before you came home!" I exclaimed, as I quickly walked over to my mom and hugged her.
"I got a call from Cynthia and she said she's pregnant and then said you are adopting Mary. How didn't I find out about this all sooner?" She asked as she held me at arm's length.
"Well, yesterday Cynthia told Gil about the baby. And today we just got the all clear for adopting Mary. Uh, sorry?" I questioned, and she sighed.
"No more retreats. I miss so much when I'm gone. So, I heard you two are thinking about another baby?" Serena asked, and I rolled my eyes.
"Not this again! Please!"

After my mother and Elliot teased me a bit, we had lunch and then put Meredith down for her nap. My mother and I went to get cupcakes and we were getting a banner printed up just to make it a little more special. Mary has been in foster care for so long, that getting a family was beyond special for her.
"So, what did you do?" I asked.
"What?"
"What did you do in Montana?" I replied and she sighed.
"I meditated and talked to the other addicts. We all had huge group therapy sessions and I'm not feeling as anxious being home." Serena spoke.
"You were anxious? Why didn't you tell me?" I questioned, as I turned into the bakery's parking lot.
"Because you were busy and I was dealing with it. Now, how was life been for you all? How has your day off been?" She asked, and I laughed a bit.
"Elliot and I got suspended for not calling for backup during a shooting," I spoke.
"Oh my god!" She exclaimed, and I shrugged.
"Mom, I'm stupid and so is my husband. Elliot got shot, but nothing too bad."
"You two need to get your heads out of your asses because you are not only going to have one, not only two, but three kids to worry about leaving parentless!" Serena exclaimed. I reached over and grabbed my mother's hand and nodded.
"Since you got your head out of your ass and got sober and mentally healthy, Elliot and I will try to also." I breathed.
"Good, because I can't raise your kids. I need to be able to spoil them without punishing them."
"Oh great, now I'm never going to leave you with my kids because they might start to think that bad behavior is good."

Elliot picked up Mary and took her to get her glasses from the eye doctor, before coming back. Chris had ridden the bus home and was now standing next to me with his Stabler sweatshirt on. I was wearing mine and Meredith was wearing a onesie with Stabler across the chest. My mother walked out as we heard Elliot pulled into the driveway and I took a shaky breath.
"Chris, you remember what to yell, right?" I asked my son, and he nodded quickly.
"Yeah, and I yell it when she walks in, right?" He questioned, and I laughed softly and nodded. The front door opened, and everyone but Meredith yelled.
"YOU'RE GETTING ADOPTED!"
