It was June, which meant Kristyn's birthday was coming up quickly! She wanted nothing more than her fiancé, Niall Horan, to be able to come see her for her birthday. It was hard on them to be separated, especially when Niall was in a different country. Kristyn had mentioned that she would love for him to come see her, and they normally made it to be with each other on their birthdays, but this year they were afraid it was going to be a little bit different. Niall was currently working hard at the studio, and was extremely busy, so he had told her he would have to play it by ear to let her know if he was going to make it or not. Kristyn didn't worry about it too much, but now that they were a few days out from her birthday, she was beginning to worry since she hadn't heard anything yet. Kristyn sat down on the couch as she called her fiancé. "Hey babe!" Niall said when he picked up the phone. "Hey!" Kristyn said back. "How are you?" he asked chipper. "Great! You?" she asked him back. "Busy!" he said with a light chuckle. "I won't keep you long then. I was just going to ask if you were going to be able to make it for my birthday this year?" Kristyn asked and Niall sighed. "I'm not, babe. I'm so sorry, but with everything going on, I'm going to be busy. I won't make it this year," he said to her with a trace of sadness in his voice. Kristyn tried not to make a big deal of it on the phone, she didn't want Niall to feel bad, because she knew he couldn't help it. "Okay, babe...I know how busy you have been. I understand," she said as tears ran down her face. "I'm sorry, babe! But, I'll see you really soon!" Niall promised feeling bad. "Okay. I love you, I'll talk to you later," Kristyn said trying to get off knowing Niall was busy, but also not being able to hide the shakiness in her voice from crying anymore. "I love you too, babe!" Niall said and then they hung up. Niall felt awful, because he had just fibbed to Kristyn, but what Kristyn didn't know was her parents had texted Niall, and had been planning the best gift she could ever ask for.
For the few days leading up to Kristyn's birthday, she hadn't been herself at all. She had laid in her bed, had cried nonstop, and felt miserable. Her parents and Niall felt so bad for her, but they knew it was going to totally be worth it. On her birthday, Kristyn's parents busted in her room to wake her up. "Happy Birthday, Kristyn!" they said and she rolled over to look at them. "Thanks, guys," she said and rolled back over. Her parents gave each other a look, and her dad excused himself to go see where Niall was currently at. "Get up, Kristyn. We are going out to celebrate," her mom said as she pulled the covers back off of her bed. "What's the point? I don't want to celebrate if Niall's not going to be here...thanks, but I think I'll just stay in bed," Kristyn said as a tear ran down her face. "No, Kristyn. You have laid here for days, we are going. I promise you'll have fun, now get up, and get ready," her mom said forcing her to go, and not taking no for an answer. Kristyn sighed as she looked at the Happy Birthday text she had gotten from Niall. It only made her feel worse, but she replied with a happy tone not to make him feel bad, and went to get herself ready for the birthday dinner while her parents secretly ran back through the plan with Niall through text.
A few hours later, they had all piled in the car, and gotten ready to go. Kristyn tried to put on a smile, but she was not happy at all. She just wanted to lay back in her bed, and sleep the day away. They drove to Cheesecake Factory for Kristyn's birthday dinner, and they started the plan when Niall texted that he had landed. "Oh my goodness. I think I left my wallet at home," her dad said patting his pockets, when really he had just left it in the car. "You guys stay here, and I'll be right back. We have a pretty long wait time anyway," her dad said, and Kristyn's mom and Kristyn agreed as he went out to the car. Kristyn's mom smiled to herself knowing where her dad was actually going though. Kristyn's dad headed straight to the airport to pick Niall up, and was excited to greet him as he walked to the car. "Hey man! Good to see you!" her dad said helping Niall put his suitcase in the trunk. "Good to see you too!" Niall said as they got into the car, and drove back to Cheesecake Factory.
