The boys of One Direction were all happily dating, and they did everything together. One thing they didn't like to do so much together was dentist appointments, but it was nice to have each other there! Niall was terrified of the dentist, and they always had a hard time getting him there and keeping him calm, but they had successfully gotten him in the car and to the office without too much fight from him. Niall's knee bounced up and down as he waited for his name to be called, and he wasn't happy at all. All of the boys had taken their turns, and he was last, but thankfully they could all go back with him. "It's alright, Ni," Liam said sitting a hand on Niall's leg. "I hate this, Liam," Niall said as the door opened and his heart dropped. "Niall?" a blonde dental assistant called from the door, and Niall's stomach turned a flip. "Come on, Ni," Harry motioned as he realized all of his boyfriends had stood and were waiting on him. "Sorry," he mumbled and stood as he followed them in the back. Louis laid a comforting hand on Niall's back as he walked behind him to ensure he didn't try and run. "You're going to be fine, love!" Zayn said to encourage him, but Niall wasn't so sure.
After they had gotten him back into a room, the dental assistant took some x-rays and disappeared from the room. "I hate this," Niall said again as they waited for the dental hygienist to come in and clean his teeth, and the boys chuckled at him lightly. "You're going to be just fine!" Liam said sitting a hand on Niall's knee. "Yeah, love! It'll be a piece of cake! And we will all be right here the whole time!" Harry said to his boyfriend. "Of course, babe!" Louis added, and Zayn held Niall's hand. "Hi!" a dental hygienist interrupted as she opened the door. "Last boy, and you can all go home!" she said as she sat the tray of clean tools down, and slid her mask and gloves on. The boys could sense Niall's nervousness growing, and they were all standing back out of the way, but Liam approached and sat on the spare chair on the other side of Niall, and then the boys filled in where they could to give Niall a comforting hand. "So, we will just give you a cleaning, and the dentist will review your x-rays and will be in after I finish to follow up with anything extra that may be needed," she smiled as she leaned the dental chair back, and Niall's breathing got a little shallow. "Relax, Ni," Louis said from his spot. "This is easy stuff, I'll tell you everything I'm doing!" she said as she picked up her tools. "I'm just going to start off by examining everything with the mirror and explorer," she said and Niall nodded. Niall was very familiar with the process of getting his teeth cleaned, but it was nice to know exactly what she was doing as she did it. "Okay, buddy! Now, I'm just going to clean everything really good!" she said as she got started on cleaning his teeth really well. "You did great!" she said as she finished up. "Thank you," Niall smiled a little as she leaned him back up, and he was proud of himself for staying calm. "Good job, babe!" the boys said as she stood to clean up the area. "The dentist will be in shortly!" she said before they thanked her once again, and she exited the room.
"You did great! We are so proud of you!" Zayn said as Niall sighed a breath of relief. Niall went to say something, but just then the dentist walked in. "Hi boys!" he said as he entered the room. "So, I reviewed your x-rays, and I want to show you a couple of things that we need to address," he said sitting down and opening Niall's file. The words that he said caused Niall's anxiety to spike again after he had finally gotten calmed down, and he was getting nervous again. "So, right here, do you see these two areas on your teeth?" he asked and Niall nodded as the dentist showed Niall his x-rays. "These are cavities. They aren't too bad, but they need to go ahead and be filled. Also, it appears that your teeth are starting to shift back again and your bite needs a little work, so I would also recommend we look at getting braces again. Nice thing is, I have no appointments after yours, so I can go ahead and do these things today!" the dentist said and waited for Niall's response to see what he was thinking. Niall sat in shock and silence, and all of the boys hearts dropped at the news; they knew Niall would be heartbroken. "Could you give us a second to discuss everything?" Liam smiled and the dentist nodded. "Of course! I'll be right down the hall!" he said as he left and shut the door behind him. "Ni, I know you aren't going to want to hear his, but I think you should go ahead and get it all done today," Harry spoke up, saying what all of the boys were thinking. "I-I can't," Niall said as tears started to well up in his eyes. "Shh, baby. It's alright," Liam said walking over and pulling his now crying boyfriend into a hug. "If you go ahead and get it all done, you don't have to come back in a few days and get it done. You can go home, and you won't have to come back until it's time to have your braces tightened. You have had those before, you can totally get through it again! You did so great the first time you had them, and as far as the fillings are concerned, it'll just be a couple of pinches and you won't feel anything after the numbing shots! Plus, we will be right here with you the whole time!" Zayn said walking over. "Please, babe. It'll be so much easier on you, and we won't leave your side," Louis pleaded with Niall, and he nodded after wiping his tears. "Great!" Harry said walking out to get the dentist.
"Okay! So, we will go ahead and get everything set up, and it'll be done in no time!" the dentist said coming in, and getting his stuff down from the cabinets around the room. "Niall, what I want you to do is just focus on keeping nice and calm for me," the dentist said as he sat down with all of the tools and supplies he needed. Niall nodded but he was shaking, and he could feel his breathing starting to get raged. "Boys, feel free to come around," the dentist said knowing it would help Niall, and they all nodded. Louis sat in the extra chair next to Niall and held his hand, Harry had a hand on his shoulder, Zayn had a hand on his knee, and Liam was running a comforting hand through his hair. "Okay, so you'll feel a little pinch, and then it'll start to feel numb," the dentist said picking the needle up and approaching Niall's mouth, but the tears started to flow heavily down his face at the sight of the shot. "I don't want it," Niall said through tears, and the boys each started trying to calm him down. "Hey, hey, hey, you're okay! It's alright! Focus on us," Louis said and Niall looked into his eyes. "Take a nice big deep breath," Liam instructed and Niall did as he was told. "Good, keep on taking them. Follow my breathing," Liam said and Zayn dabbed the tears off his red cheeks. "Okay, now, squeeze Louis' hand and close your eyes," Harry said and Niall trusted him and did as he was told. "Okay, Niall. 1-2-3," the dentist said before giving the first shot. He winced and the dentist patted his shoulder. "You're doing great! One more. 1-2-3," he said and got the last needle administered, and Niall squeezed Louis' hand tight. "Okay, Niall! Great! I'm just going to start the fillings, you just sit back and relax," the dentist said hurrying to get the fillings completed, and they got Niall through it. "Awesome! Time to put your braces on," the dentist said and Niall opened his eyes. They could sense the fear in his eyes still, but he had calmed down a great deal and was being compliant. "I'm going to put the cheek retractor in, and I'll get started. You know the drill," his dentist smiled and Niall nodded. He let the dentist do his job as he focused on the boys gentle touches and encouraging words as he had the braces put on.
"Okay! You're good to go!" the dentist said sitting Niall up, and handing him a mirror to look at the braces. "I'm sorry you had to have braces again, but they look great!" Zayn said and all of the boys agreed and complimented him. "Thank you, boys!" Niall said as he inspected them. "Thanks doc," he said shaking his hand, as well as all of the boys. "No problem at all! Now, he will probably be in some pain later on when the numbing wears off, because he won't be able to feel much of the tightness from the braces, but just take some pain killers at home, and he will be good to go! I'll see you boys in a month!" he said and they drove a very tired Niall home to rest.
