Hope you are well! Much love!Liam was coming up on needing his dental cleaning, and he wasn't happy in the slightest. As a matter of fact, when he saw it on the calendar, he tried to convince the boys to change it. However, he didn't win that argument. Everyone knew Liam was terrified of the dentist, so they didn't outwardly tell him he had the appointment coming up, so when he found out, he had a cow. The day finally came, and they all piled into the car to go. It had taken a lot of convincing to even get Liam out of the bed, and getting him in the car to go was an even bigger problem; however, they were successful when Liam realized he wasn't going to get out of it. "I just don't understand why I have to go," Liam said from the backseat, and the boys all chuckled at him a little. "Li, you have to go because your teeth need to be cleaned," Louis explained and Liam shot him a look. "I know that...I just don't understand why you guys are making me. I clean my teeth perfectly fine," Liam said. "We know you do, but you have to make sure everything is going okay with them too. They have to check for stuff. Plus, it never hurts to have a deep clean," Harry said and Liam sighed, because he knew he was right. "Well still," he muttered under his breath as they drove the rest of the way there.
They got him into the office, and then they got situated in an exam room. Liam's nerves were shot; he was shaking, he couldn't breathe good, and he could feel his heart beating out of his chest. "Liam, are you okay?" Niall asked noticing how nervous Liam looked. Liam nodded at him, but they all knew that was a lie. "What's going on, Liam?" Zayn asked sitting next to him. "You boys know I hate the dentist," Liam said and Zayn could see the fear written all over his face. "We know you do, love. But you have to get these things done," Harry said and Liam shook his head. "I know, but I hate this stuff," he said and the boys felt horrible that he had to deal with it. "We are right here for you! What makes you uncomfortable?" Louis asked trying to see if they could help make him feel better. "Really just the whole experience. I hate the thoughts of all of it!" Liam explained and the boys sighed. "Well, we are going to be right here during it all," Niall smiled reassuringly at Liam. "Yeah! We promise, we aren't going to let them hurt you," Zayn said and Liam tried to relax. "We promise, everything is going to be just fine!" Harry said holding Liam's hand.
A few seconds later, the dentist came into the room. "Hey boys!" he said pulling gloves on and getting the X-ray machine ready. "Hey!" they all said except for Liam. "We won't waste anytime, since I know you're not too fond of the dentist," the dentist smiled and Liam thankful for that. "I'm just going to start off by taking a couple of X-rays," he said as he had Liam bite on the uncomfortable piece of plastic they use. They boys stepped away, and Liam missed their comforting words and touches. "We are right here," Zayn said seeing the anxiety in Liam's eyes return. "Okay, we are done with that part," the dentist said as he pulled the X-rays and started to review them. The boys all crowded around their boyfriend and returned to comforting him and giving him reassuring words. "Okay, Liam. It looks like your teeth are shifting, and we are going to have to get you back to wearing a retainer," the dentist explained and Liam's heart dropped. "What?" he asked. "Well, it appears that since you've had your braces off and stuff that you're teeth have shifted. It could've been from improperly wearing your retainer or something else. We will just give you another one to wear to clear up that little bit of moving I'm seeing, it should make them go straight back and stay," he said sitting Liam's charts on the counter and getting ready to clean his teeth.
The boys could sense how tense Liam was from the news, and he was starting to get worked up again as the dentist prepared the tools. "Relax, it's okay," Niall said before they backed off to let the dentist do his job. "Open nice and wide for me," the dentist said and Liam did as he was told. The dentist got through the cleaning with no problems, and then he got ready to get Liam's impressions for his new retainer. "Are you sure I can't just leave my teeth how it is?" Liam asked and the dentist frowned. "No, unfortunately not. They'll just continue to shift," he explained and Liam sighed as the dentist approached with the tray of impression stuff. "This will be uncomfortable, but it'll just take a few seconds. Breathe through your nose for me," the dentist said and put the huge tray in Liam's mouth. Liam could feel himself starting to choke a little, and finally it was over, and the dentist left to get it made.
"I can't believe this," Liam said getting mad. "It's okay, Liam. You won't have it for long, it's just to make sure nothing else shifts. Eventually, you'll only have to wear it at night," Louis said and Liam pouted. "I don't care, I'm going to look stupid. I don't want to wear it in front of y'all or the fans. I'm going to look silly," Liam said and the boys shook their heads. "No, you won't! You'll look fine!" they all said trying to make him feel better. "No, it won't!" Liam said as tears started to run down his face. "Hey, don't cry! We promise, you're absolutely so handsome! You're going to look great!" Zayn said and the boys agreed. "Liam, we love you for you, not what you look like or wear! This is just a minor thing, and it's going to be fine!" Harry added. "Absolutely! We promise!" Louis said. "Of course!" Niall agreed. "Really??...I love you guys," Liam said as the dentist walked back in after making his retainer.
"Okay, try it on for me," the dentist smiled handing him his retainer. "It will be a little snug," he explained and Liam nodded. "It's snug but not unbearable," Liam said, and the dentist nodded. "Great!" he said handing Liam a mirror to look at it. Liam smiled and he inspected it. "I hate it," he said and the boys laughed. "It's not going to be too bad. You only have to wear it all day for a few months, and then you can start wearing it only at night," the dentist explained and Liam nodded before moving out to the car with the boys. "Liam, really it's not bad!" the boys said and he turned his phone camera on to look at it. "You promise?" he asked looking at them. "We swear! We wouldn't lie to you!" the boys said. "Okay...it doesn't look that bad, I guess...I still hate wearing it though," he said and the boys laughed. Eventually, Liam got used to it and wasn't bothered by it anymore.
