It had been exactly a week since Niall had his wisdom teeth removed, and it was time for him to go back and get the stitches taken out. Niall had honestly been dreading going back all week, and he wasn't happiest in the least when Kristyn woke him up to go this morning. Honestly, Kristyn had been dealing with her own mouth pain too this week. It started halfway Wednesday when she was eating lunch, and it had just progressively gotten worse throughout the week. "Are you okay?" Niall questioned Kristyn as she picked at her breakfast. "Honestly, my mouth has been bothering me. I think I may be due to have my wisdom teeth taken out," she told Niall and stood up to throw away her breakfast. "Why didn't you say anything?" Niall questioned as he ate his oatmeal. "Eh, I didn't want to bother you cause I knew you were in pain, plus it isn't that bad," Kristyn said nonchalantly and washed her dishes. "You wouldn't have bothered me," Niall mumbled under his breath. "Oh, get over it," Kristyn teased kissing his cheek. "Now, eat because we have to go back to Dr. Todd's office today," she reminded him and he sighed.
After Niall and Kristyn finished getting ready, they hopped in the car and were on their way. "I really hope nothing else comes of this appointment, I am so done with dental work," Niall said putting the car in park. "It'll be alright," Kristyn encouraged as they walked in. As soon as Kristyn and Niall were signed in, they were sent straight back. Dr. Todd had everything he could possibly need and more set up, and he was ready to go. "Hey guys! Time to get those pesky stitches out, yeah?" Dr. Todd said patting the seat. "Yeah, they're kinda bothering my mouth," Niall explained. "They'll do that sometimes," Dr. Todd said gloving up. "Okay, let's see what we got here," Dr. Todd said turning the overhead light on. As Niall opened his mouth, Dr. Todd already knew something didn't look quite right. "Hmm," he mumbled as he got a closer look. "Everything okay?" Kristyn asked for Niall when he looked at her concerned, because of the dentist's reaction. "Well...it seems like Niall's gums have grown over the stitches," Dr. Todd said looking at Kristyn. "So what do you have to do?" Niall questioned. "You're not going to want to hear this, but I'll need to numb you and cut the gums away, so I can get the stitches out. We can't leave them like this," Dr. Todd explained sympathetically knowing Niall hates needles. "Let's just go ahead and do it really quick, and I'll work really fast," Dr. Todd said and picked up a syringe. Kristyn physically saw Niall's face drop at the news. She felt so bad that he was having to go through numbing yet again. Niall didn't resist, but tears started running from his eyes. "Almost done," Dr. Todd said numbing the other side of his mouth. Kristyn held Niall's hand, and whispered encouraging words to get his mind off the pain. "Shut your eyes," she suggested so he didn't have to see them coming toward him. Finally, they got Niall numbed, and started on getting the stitches freed. "Awesome job, Niall," Dr. Todd said removing them carefully. "Last ones," Dr. Todd said moving to the other teeth, and taking out the stuck stitches. "You did great!" Dr. Todd said taking his gloves off after he finished. "Wanna see them?" he asked sitting Niall up. Niall nodded and made a disgusted look at the stitches, causing Kristyn and Dr. Todd to laugh. "Anymore questions or concerns?" Dr. Todd asked. "Actually, my mouth has been bothering me this week. It's in the back where my wisdom teeth are, I think I may be due to have them removed," Kristyn spoke up. "Okay! I'd be happy to take a look," Dr. Todd offered and Kristyn agreed. "Let's see here," Dr. Todd said pulling on another pair of gloves. "Yep, you're ready to have yours out! Wanna go ahead and do it today?" Dr. Todd said already having the tools ready just in case of something happening. "Sure!" she said. "Alright!" Dr. Todd said rearranging the tools, and grabbing what he would need.
"Okay, just for simplicity sake, I'll keep you awake for yours if that's alright," Dr. Todd said sitting back down in his chair. "That's fine with me," Kristyn said and Niall came close to watch, and be beside Kristyn. "Alright. I'm going to put you on some laughing gas before we start," he said and pulled the mask on her nose. "Alright, first numbing shot," Dr. Todd said coming closer with the shot. Kristyn tensed a little bit, because she had never had a shot in the back of her mouth. She squeezed Niall's hand a little, and he stroked her hand to comfort her. "Good job!" Dr. Todd said finishing the numbing. Dr. Todd got Kristyn's procedure done with only the assistance of Niall holding her hand, laughing gas, and numbing. "Phenomenal job!" Dr. Todd said finishing the last stitch. "Thanks Doc," she said as he sat the seat up. "No problem!" he said. After a small rundown of after care instructions, they were sent on their way, and Niall drove them back home.
"Let's go take a nap," Niall said helping Kristyn up the stairs. "That sounds great," she said and they made their way toward their bed. Kristyn and Niall slid into more comfortable clothes, and then got in bed to take a much needed nap. Niall held Kristyn close as they dozed off to sleep. A few hours later, Niall woke up to Kristyn shuffling under his grip. "Hey, sleepy head, how're you feeling?" he said looking at her. "I've felt better, honestly," Kristyn said in pain. "Oh no!" Niall jumped up immediately to go get her medicine. "Here you are, darling," Niall said handing Kristyn her pain medicine and a cup of water. "Thanks, Niall," she said taking the medicine. "Hey, I have an idea! Let's go out to the hot tub like we did with me, it'll make you feel better!" Niall said running to grab their bathing suits, making Kristyn laugh at his excitement. After they made their way out to the hot tub, they sat and enjoyed each other's company for several moments. "I love you so much, Kristyn," Niall said looking down at her. "I love you too, Niall," she said snuggling into him. "I really wanted to do something to show you how much I love you since your birthday is coming up," Niall said leaning over and grabbing a small box. "What's this?" Kristyn said as he handed her the box. "Just a small gift, open it," Niall smiled. Kristyn opened the small box and it revealed a necklace with her initials "KH" on them. "Oh, Niall! It's so pretty!" Kristyn said getting teary eyed. "Oh, don't cry!" Niall said holding her close. "Thank you so much!" she thanked him. "Anything for the love of my life," Niall said putting it on her, and they cuddled in the hot tub a little longer.
"I'm going to grab a quick shower," Kristyn said as they made their way back into the bedroom. "Okay, love. I'm going to go ahead and lay down," Niall said and put some pajamas on. He laid in the bed while waiting on his wife. She emerged a bit later sporting some pajamas, the necklace, and wet hair. Kristyn came and laid down in the bed, and snuggled close to Niall. "Can I ask you a question?" Niall asked. "Of course," she said looking up towards him. "Why do you like the dentist so much?" he asked. "Well, I've always sorta liked the dentist. I had a really good one when I was a kid that would make me laugh, and get my mind off everything. My dentist enjoyed making kids laugh, and making the visit as pleasurable as possible, since the dentist can be a little intimidating," Kristyn explained. "Why do you hate it so much?" Kristyn questioned back. "When I was a kid, I had a really awful dentist. He would do things like slap you if you cried while getting numbed. Or, he wouldn't re-numb you if your numbing wore off. He would just let you lay there and suffer. Plus, the way he did the needles really hurt," Niall said getting worked up as he remembered his childhood dentist. Kristyn listened in horror as Niall told the terrible things his dentist would do. "I had no idea, Niall. I am so sorry you had to go through that," she comforted as he cried. She grabbed his hand, and wiped the tears off his face. "You don't have to worry about Dr. Todd, he's a great dentist, and he would never hurt you. But, it's perfectly fine that you get scared," she assured as she calmed him down. "I love you very much," Niall said after he had calmed down. "I love you very much too!" Kristyn said as they settled into each other's arms. They held each other close, and fell asleep in each other's arms for the rest of the night!
