After realizing Brianna's fears, the group tried pondering different ways of helping Brianna overcome them. "We don't want to make it worse, ya know?" Bea threw out as the three girls sat in a circle. "Well, what would be a good way to ease her into it without necessarily exposing her to those atmospheres?" her big sister Demi asked. "We could play dentist and doctor once a week! I think it would help, because she would get much more comfortable with it!" Kennedi, her other big sister, proposed. "That's honestly a really good idea!" Bea and Demi said. "Awesome! So, we have a game plan! I think Brianna will be on board with that," Demi said excitedly. "We could use some extra help, so we could get Nick Jonas to come and help us out, since he has been our doctor for five years! It would be a familiar face for Brianna as well!" Kennedi added. "Also a great idea!" Bea and Demi agreed. "Awesome! I'll call Nick, and we can go tell Brianna the game plan then!" Demi said as she pulled out her phone to call Nick. "Hey Nick, how are you?" Demi said when he answered the phone. "Hey Demi, I'm great. How are you?" he asked back through the phone. "I'm great too! I was actually calling to ask a favor of you!" Demi said and he asked her what it was. "Well, Brianna has a severe fear of dentists, doctors, and needles, so we came up with a solution of playing doctor and dentist every week to see if we could get her more comfortable with it. We could really use your help," Demi told hoping Nick would agree to help. "Okay! When do you want to start?" he asked more than happy to help. "How about tomorrow?" Demi offered and he agreed. "Alright, well Nick will be here tomorrow!" Demi said to the other two girls. "Great! Let's go tell Brianna the plan then!" Bea said as they headed to the living room where Brianna was.
"Hey guys!" Brianna said as she saw her sisters, Kennedi and Demi, and her girlfriend Bea walk in. "Hey!" they all greeted as they sat down. "So, we have a plan," Bea said as she walked over to her girlfriend, and pulled her close. "What's that?" Brianna asked curiously as she leaned into her girlfriend. "Well, we know how scared you are of the doctor, dentist, and needles," Kennedi started. "Yeah?" Brianna said as she prompted them go to on. "So, how would you feel if we played dentist and doctor once a week to get you more comfortable with it?" Demi asked nervously thinking Brianna would say no. "mmm...okay!" Brianna agreed after she thought about it. "Awesome! We will start tomorrow, we think it will really help!" Kennedi said excitedly.
The next day, Nick came over bright and early, and they set up the area to get started. "Brianna," Demi called up the stairs to her sister. Brianna came padding down the stairs to see everything laid out. "Hey Nick! What are you doing here?" she asked seeing him. "I thought I'd come and help out!" Nick said smiling. "Okay!" Brianna said. "Okay, so first, we are going to have you do the dentist part," Bea said grabbing her girlfriend's hand, and leading her to their makeshift dental chair that was actually the couch. "Okay, we are going to do this just like a dentist appointment," Demi said as she laid out some tools. She could tell that Brianna was already getting fidgety, and she was really focused on the tools. "Hey, don't worry! This is just practice! We will stop anytime you need!" Demi said reassuringly as she sat down next to her sister. "Okay," Brianna said. "Alright, like we always do at the dentist, we're just going to have you open your mouth, and we will look around with the explorer," Bea said as Brianna leaned back to let them do their jobs. "See, it's easy," Demi said as they started off. "Now, we are going to take these tools and start cleaning your teeth," the girls said as they started to pick up the minimal amounts of tools they had at the house just to get the basic gist of the dentist for the sake of playing it. Brianna started getting worked up, and she could feel herself getting antsy. "Relax, it's nothing serious! Just these tools," Bea said lovingly as she held up a tooth brush, and a couple of harmless looking tools. Ultimately, Brianna was calm after she saw it was just some easy tools. "Great job!" Demi said as she took her gloves off. "I think you can manage to do that once a week, how about you?" Demi asked as Brianna sat up. "I think so," Brianna smiled proud of herself. But then, she realized that Nick and Kennedi would be doing the doctor part.
She felt a lump in her throat as she swallowed, she was getting the same nervous feeling all over again. It was necessarily the thought of the doctor itself (even though she was afraid of the doctor), it was more the fear that Nick had a needle. "Okay, Brianna, I brought my basic doctor's bag," Nick said as he started to get ready to play along with the game. "What do you have?" Brianna said getting worked up even more. "Just the basics," Nick smiled and Kennedi sat next to Brianna to comfort her if need be. "Okay, here's a blood pressure cuff," Nick said pulling it out, and taking her blood pressure. The more and more Brianna thought about the needle, and everything else, she started to hyperventilate. She could feel the air getting caught in the back of her throat as she tried to breathe, and soon the others noticed too. "Hey, hey, it's okay," Kennedi said laying a hand on Brianna's back. "I can't do this," Brianna said and Nick got down his knees so he was down on her level where she was sitting. "You can trust me, I would never hurt you! We are doing this to help you," Nick said looking into her eyes. "It's okay, Brianna," Bea said as she sat on the other side of her girlfriend. "Breathe, you can do it," Bea reassured her pulling her into a hug. "You totally got this! You're literally so brave," Demi said trying to help as well. "You-you're right," Brianna said catching her breath finally. "Okay, wanna continue?" Nick offered as he stood back up. "Yes," Brianna said letting him get back to work. "Okay, just like at the office, I'm going to check your eyes, ears, and mouth, and then I'll check your lungs," Nick said continuing. As he did what he said, Brianna was fine, but she couldn't help but notice what looked like a syringe sticking out of his bag. "You're doing great," Nick said as he finished up. "Do you have a needle?" Brianna questioned as he pulled a few more things out of his back. Before he could answer, she started to freak out again. "I can't get a shot! Please!" she pleaded and her eyes started filling with tears. Just a few seconds later, she was hyperventilating once again, and she had tears streaming down her face. "It's okay, calm down," they all said trying to get her to calm down. Bea held her close, Kennedi rubbed her shoulder, and Demi and Nick said encouraging words to try and help her. Bea had her follow her breathing to get her back to a normal state, and they finally got her to start calming down once again. "That needle isn't for you, Brianna," Nick smiled at her getting her attention. "It's not?" she asked confused. "Of course, not! I wouldn't make you do that. I brought it to let someone show you how easy they are to get, and that it isn't that bad. It's actually for Demi," Nick informed, and Demi's eyes grew wide. "You didn't mention that part," she smiled through gritted teeth. "It's for your sister, surely you aren't going to say no, are you?" Nick teased Demi, and Demi rolled her eyes at him. "Here we go," Nick said as Demi said down to get the injection. "One, two, three," he said and the needle was already in. "See how easy?" Nick asked as he put the needle up. "That didn't look too bad," Brianna said noticing Demi rubbing her arm. "It's not," Demi said as she rubbed her sore arm. "You did great, Demi," Nick laughed as he got a nasty glare from her. "You did really good too, Brianna. If we keep this up once a week, you'll be over these fears in no time!" Nick said as they went to grab lunch. The rest of the day they had fun with each other, just hanging out, and laughing at how Demi continually glaring at Nick for the rest of the evening.
