Prompt: Harry is Louis' boyfriend and dentist. One day Louis starts having a pain in his mouth, and doesn't want to let Harry look at it, because he is afraid of the dentist. He finally agrees to go with Harry to let him check it out, and they discover he needs braces. He gets a little nervous, and tries to run off, so they move the procedure to another day. Louis is still nervous on the next appointment, but he ultimately winds up letting Harry do his job, and he learns not to be so afraid of the dentist
"Lou," Harry called upstairs to his and Louis' shared bedroom. Louis had been sleeping all day, and Harry was starting to miss his boyfriend. It wasn't uncommon of Louis to sleep in on Sunday's, but not till 12:00pm. Louis hadn't moved from the bed all day, because he had woken up with a terrible toothache, and he was horrified that Harry would find out. See, Louis loved having a boyfriend that was a dentist, because he was super proud of Harry's accomplishments, but Louis had never been fond of the dentist. Harry had done minimal work on Louis, just cleanings and check-ups, but Louis knew that this toothache would require more. When he heard Harry calling up the stairs, he knew he couldn't hide in there any longer and went downstairs. "There's my sleepyhead," Harry laughed as Louis came down the stairs. "Hey babe," Louis tried smiling at Harry, but his mouth shot with pain when he did that. Louis quickly pretended everything was fine though, and brushed away Harry's concerned looks. "I made you lunch, love. Surely, you're hungry!" Harry exclaimed getting the sandwich he had prepared off the counter, and taking it to where Louis was now seated on the couch. "Thanks, love," Louis said taking the sandwich, but his stomach churned at the thought of even eating right now. Louis stared at his sandwich for a few good moments when he noticed Harry was looking at him confused. "Sorry, I zoned out," Louis played off, but Harry knew better. "What's bothering you, Louis?" he asked sitting the sandwich on the coffee table. Louis thought about what to do for several seconds. He knew he couldn't keep this from Harry forever, he had only been out of the bed for 20 minutes, and Harry could already tell something wasn't right. "Honestly, my mouth is really bothering me," Louis admitted not wanting to make eye contact. "Lou, why didn't you just tell me?" Harry asked cocking his head to the side. "Harry, I'm honestly terrified of the dentist. You're really good at what you do, and keep me calm when you're doing my cleanings and stuff, but I knew this wasn't going to take just a cleaning, and it made me really nervous, because normally people-" Louis started nervously ranting, but Harry applied a gentle kiss to his nose to get his attention. "Louis, that's perfectly normal!" Harry comforted his boyfriend. "...you're not mad?" Louis said looking at Harry. "Of course not, Louis," Harry chuckled. "Why don't you let me take a look at it?" Harry offered and Louis shook his head 'no.' "Come on, Louis. It's Sunday, so nobody else will be there. I promise I won't hurt you," Harry pleaded for several minutes. Finally, Louis agreed to go into Harry's office, and let him take a look at it.
"Alright, Louis. Go ahead and take a seat," Harry said turning on the light in the dental room. Louis slipped nervously into the seat, and started looking at his surroundings. Everything in the room seemed to taunt him. The smiling tooth poster on the wall made him uncomfortable, and the tools looked a whole lot bigger and scarier than they actually were. He could feel his heart beginning to pound out of his chest. He watched his boyfriend move swiftly around the room getting everything ready for the exam, and the more he thought about what was going on, the more he had the urge to run...and that's what he did.
Harry heard the door close, and turned around to see who it was. He sighed when he saw the brunette boy missing from the chair, and the door swinging back and forth where he had run through it. Harry felt bad that Louis was scared of the dentist, he didn't want him to be nervous, because he would never hurt him. Harry started out the door to find Louis, and caught him trying to unlock the door (Harry locked the door behind him, just so nobody random walked in if they saw the lights on in the front). "Lou?" Harry called out calmly. Louis turned around frightened. "Louis, I promise there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of!" Harry comforted pulling Louis into a hug. Louis was gasping from running and from fear. Harry rubbed his back until he calmed back down. "Come on, babe. It'll be really quick, and I won't hurt you. I'll tell you everything I'm doing," Harry convinced and Louis looked into Harry's eyes. He could sense how serious Harry was, and so he agreed. "That's my boy," Harry smiled taking Louis' hand, and leading him back into the office.
Louis sat back down into the chair, and Harry pulled over his tools and own chair. "Okay, first I'm going to take some quick x-rays. All you have to do is bite on this little thing right here, and sit really still," Harry said and Louis opened his mouth slowly. Harry wasted no time, and got the x-rays done in record time. "Alright. Let's take a look here, and see what is going on," Harry smiled at Louis. After a few seconds, Harry knew exactly what was wrong. "Well, Louis. It looks like you need braces," Harry said and Louis looked at Harry confused. Harry leaned over to show Louis his x-rays. "See how close these teeth are? They're overcrowding which is causing your mouth to hurt. Braces are simple, and I don't see you having them own real long either, cause your teeth are already great," Harry said not to worry Louis. "Braces?" Louis stuttered. "I promise, it'll only take about 45 minutes to put them on, and it will only be a little sore for a few days. Nothing I'm going to do is going to be painful, maybe just some pressure," Harry said and Louis closed his eyes trying to keep from panicking. "Take some breaths," Harry told him already sensing his nervousness increasing, but Louis felt the room start spinning, and sent himself into a panic attack. "Love, it's okay! How about we do it on another day?" Harry said pulling Louis into a hug. "You don't mind, you aren't mad?" Louis said pulling away. "Of course not, love! It takes some getting used to, we don't have to do it all today!" Harry said smiling at his boyfriend. "I would prefer that," Louis said snuggling back into his boyfriend. "Okay, babe," Harry agreed, and they went home and cuddled the rest of the day.
The week passed, and it was now Saturday morning. Harry knew the pain in Louis' mouth could only be getting worse, and he was right. Louis had trouble eating, talking, and his mouth hurt him constantly, but he thought if he didn't bring it back up, Harry would forget about it. Harry's office closed after Friday, so normally they had the whole weekend together. This weekend they were out Monday for a holiday though, and Harry knew three days was plenty of time to get Louis at least mostly recovered pain wise from getting braces, so he decided today was the day. "Louiisssss," Harry sang to wake Louis up. "Get up, babe," Harry said kissing Louis on the cheek. "Why so early? It's a Saturday," Louis whined because they normally slept in together. "I think you know why," Harry said and Louis' eyes shot open. "Nooo Harry, I don't want to do it today, the pain isn't that bad," Louis said and pulled the covers over his head. "Oh yeah? Alright then, kiss me," Harry teased and Louis whined knowing he couldn't from the pain. "That's what I thought. Come on, we're going," Harry said pulling Louis out of the bed, and making him get dressed.
They drove to the office, and both got out of the car. Louis was looking for an escape, but Harry wrapped his arms around Louis' waist, and directed him toward the door. He led him straight into the room, and kept a close eye on him while he was setting up. "Alright, now. I promise I am going to tell you everything I'm doing. If anything hurts, let me know, and I'll stop. All I want you to do is focus on your breathing," Harry said laying the chair back. Louis did as he was told, and he felt himself calm down some. The nervous feeling in his stomach began to diminish as Harry rubbed his boyfriend's shoulder while the chair was getting positioned. "Okay, I'm going to give them a clean really quick, and then I'm going to put some glue on then your brackets," Harry said and did exactly that. As he went, he kept on encouraging Louis that he was so close to being done, and that he was doing great. "Okay! Now, I'm going to run this light over them to secure the glue," Harry said going over each of the brackets. "Now, I'm going to put your wire on," Harry said laying the wire on the brackets. "You're doing great, Louis!" Harry said finishing up the wire. "Alright! What colors do you want for your bands?" Harry asked setting the selection on Louis' lap. "Green and blue," Louis opted. "Great choices," Harry smiled making Louis laugh. "Now, this is the only part that's going to be uncomfortable, because it's tightening everything together, and fastening your wire down," Harry said patting Louis' shoulder. He was worried it was going to hurt, but Harry hadn't told him a fib yet, so he let Harry go on. It went quickly, and Louis hopped up to look at his braces. "What do you think?" Harry asked taking his gloves off. "They're actually kinda cool!" Louis exclaimed as he examined his braces. "I think they look adorable on you," Harry said kissing Louis earning a small whimper. "Oops! Sorry, babe. Forgot they would be sore," Harry laughed and hugged Louis instead.
The rest of the weekend, Harry cared for Louis when his mouth would start acting up, and they cuddled. Louis could finally rest assured that the dentist wasn't so bad after all.
