Hope you are all well! Much love!
Niall's least favorite thing was the dentist/ orthodontist, but today he didn't mind going one bit, because he was finally getting his braces off. Liam didn't have to try and wrestle Niall into the car like he normally does on the days he has an appointment, and Liam was pleasantly surprised to see his boyfriend in a great mood. Typically, any day Niall had an appointment, he wasn't in the best of moods. Liam drove them to the office, and got Niall signed in, and he was taken back fairly quickly. Niall sat down in the chair, and was grinning big. "Are you excited, babe?" Liam asked with a chuckle from the seat next to the dental chair. "So excited!" Niall replied as the dentist walked in. "Well, it's finally time to get those pesky braces off," the dentist laughed as he gloved up, and sat on his stool. "Yes!" Niall said as the dentist leaned his chair back. The dentist got right to work taking them off, and Niall held Liam's hand. Nothing hurt, it was just a little pressure, and then they were off! Niall ran his tongue over his now bare teeth, and it felt good. "It feels so weird!" Niall said as the dentist handed him a mirror. "They look great, babe!" Liam said as he looked at Niall's new smile. Niall inspected it in the mirror, and was extremely happy with it. "It does!" the dentist said as he looked at Niall's teeth. "Thanks, you guys! I love it!" Niall said as he kept looking at it. "Let me give them a good cleaning to get all that glue and stuff off, we will get your retainer for you, take a few x-rays and you'll be good to go," the dentist said as he got Niall to open up and clean his teeth. The cleaning went fast, the dentist had given Niall his retainer, and now they were waiting to get his x-rays back that the dentist took to track his progress. As they waited, Niall continued to smile happily in the mirror, and Liam snapped a picture to put on Instagram.
"Okay, Niall. So, I was reviewing your x-rays and everything looks great, but you do have a few cavities we need to go ahead and fill while you're here," the dentist said coming in and taking a seat. "What?" Niall said as the smile on his face went to a frown. "It won't take long!" the dentist said, but time wasn't what Niall was worried about. Niall knew cavities meant needles, and he wasn't happy at all. "It's alright, babe," Liam said taking Niall's hand again, knowing how scared he was of needles and getting dental work done. "Can we not just do it another day? I mean, I don't see why we have to do it today," Niall suggested, but Liam shook his head. "No, let's go ahead and do it today. That way you won't have to worry about coming back, and we are already here," Liam said patting Niall's shoulder. "Liam is right. Also, these cavities may have been here for a while, so we should go ahead and get them done, just to avoid them sitting any longer and getting worse," the dentist said getting some syringes ready to numb Niall's gums. "Please, I really don't want to do it," Niall said as he squirmed in the chair. "It's just three small ones, it shouldn't take us more than 30 or 45 minutes," the dentist said getting ready to start. "No, please," Niall said and tears cascaded down his face. "Ni, don't cry," Liam said looking at the younger boy. "Liam, I don't want the shots," Niall said, his voice sounding similar to a kids. Liam wiped the tears off Niall's face, and the dentist came closer with the needle which caused Niall to freak out. "Open up for me, please," the dentist said, but Niall turned his head away, and his tears turned to sobs. "Oh, love. It's okay. Don't cry. Shh," Liam said pulling Niall into a hug over the arm of the chair. "I-I can't d-do this," Niall said through cries, and Liam rocked him back and forth slowly. "Niall, calm down, baby. Take a deep breath," Liam said and Niall shut his eyes and tried to focus on Liam's instructions. Niall listened to Liam's heartbeat, and took a breath as he was told. "Alright, let's try again," the dentist smiled as Niall started to calm down, and laid back in the chair. "Okay Niall, I'm just going to count down, okay?" the dentist said as he picked the needle back up. Niall nodded and Liam held his hand. Liam kept saying encouraging words to his boyfriend as the dentist numbed him. "Great!" the dentist said after he got Niall numbed. Finally, Niall was comfortable enough to let the dentist work without trying to stop him, but he still kept a tight grip on Liam's hand.
Three fillings later, Niall was finally being sat up in the chair. "Great! You did fantastic! Now, just remember to wear your retainer all day, except for when you are eating, and then we will see you in a couple of months to make sure everything still looks great," the dentist said as Niall stood up. "Thank you!" Liam told the man as they walked out, and made their way to the car. "How does your mouth feel?" Liam asked as he noticed Niall kept pushing on his cheek. "Numb," Niall laughed for the first time since being told he had to have cavities filled, and Liam chuckled too. "The feeling will come back soon," Liam smiled as he took them home. Niall was exhausted from the day's events, so he laid down on the couch when they got home, and decided to take a nap. When he woke up, he was not numb anymore and was starting to have some pain. Luckily, Liam had already laid out some water and pain pills, and Liam made sure to make Niall feel better while he was dealing with the pain for the few days after.
