Niall and Kristyn Horan had been happily married for ten years, and it was safe to say they were more than ready to start a family together. They had been trying for a baby for quite some time, but it felt like nothing they did worked. Niall and Kristyn were starting to get upset, but they didn't ever give up on their dream of having a baby. One day, Kristyn had noticed that her period was really late. The first few days, she chalked it up to just coming a little later, but when more time passed, Kristyn decided to take a pregnancy test to be safe. "Niall, my period was really late," Kristyn told Niall after she finally got it many days after she was due, and he gave her a soft smile hoping for the best, but not getting his hopes up, because it seemed like it was impossible to have a baby after everything they tried. "Alright, babe," he said as he stood up and joined her to go into their bathroom that was connected to their bedroom. They had gotten into a routine of Kristyn having pregnancy symptoms and taking tests, so this was fairly normal to them recently, and they weren't holding their breaths for anything to change. Kristyn took the test and waited the five minutes, she crossed her fingers as she picked up the test and read it. "Negative," she said somewhat disappointed, and tossed it in the trashcan. "I'm sorry, babe. I know how much we want this...we will try as long as it takes," Niall said pulling Kristyn into a hug and kissing her on the forehead. Kristyn didn't think anything of the test, her and Niall just went about their busy days of working to set tour dates, and workout things with venues.
Later that night, Kristyn and Niall went to bed as normal. Kristyn was sleepign soundly when she woke up to intense pain in her abdomen. She groaned at the pains coming from her lower stomach, and she thought to herself that it must be period cramps. Kristyn laid there for a few more minutes, and eventually they got worse and worse. "Niall," she said and poked him. "Niall," she said a little louder, and using her arm to shake him awake. "Hmm?" Niall said with his eyes still closed. '"I'm having really bad stomach pain. It hurts really badly," Kristyn said and Niall's eyes fluttered open immediately. "Is it cramps?" he asked knowing her period had come, and she could see the concern in his gorgeous blue eyes. "I'm not sure...I thought it was at first, but now I'm not so sure," she said and Niall sat up and grabbed his phone. "What are you doing?" Kristyn asked looking at him confused. "Calling your brother," Niall said. Kristyn's brother, Liam, was a doctor, and Niall knew he would be able to tell them what was going on. "It's past midnight," Kristyn said and Niall shook his head as he held the phone up to his ear. "I don't care, something could be wrong," Niall said as he called Liam, and then took Kristyn to the hospital he worked at.
"Thank you so much for seeing us," Niall said as they walked into the room at the hospital. "No worries at all, I was here anyway," Liam smiled as he hugged his sister. "Let's go ahead and do an ultrasound, it'll tell us more about what could be going on," Liam said and Kristyn laid down on the bed, and pulled her shirt up a little. Liam performed the ultrasound, and his face twisted into a confused look. "Kristyn, did you know you are pregnant?" Liam asked her, and Kristyn's mouth dropped. "Wait...what?" she managed to say as she looked at him like he's crazy. "Look at the screen," Liam said and motioned to it with his head. There it was...a very evident baby on the screen. Kristyn and Niall sat in shock as they saw it, and they were overcome with emotion. That's all it took for Kristyn to burst into tears. "I'm going to be a mom!" she said through tears, and Niall joined her in crying happy tears. "Well, this explains the pain you are having...you are in labor," Liam informed them, absolutely shocked himself. "Labor?!" Kristyn asked barely having time to process that she was pregnant at all, and now she was being told that she was nine months pregnant, and currenlty in labor. "Yes! I need to check and see how dialated you are," Liam said as he slid the chair to the end of the table. "Umm, I don't really like the idea of that," Kristyn said nervous about having her brother in that area. "Kristyn, I'm not your brother right now. I'm your doctor, and you have to let me check so that I can deliver your baby and make sure it's safely delivered," Liam said as seriousness flooded his voice. Kristyn nodded and Liam went about his business. "Well, you are 7cm dialated, you can have an epidural if you'd like one," he said looking at her. "Yes, I want one," she said as she looked at the ceiling, and tried to grasp everything that was happening so quickly. The anesthesiologist came in to give Kristyn the epidural, and Niall held her hand as it was administered. "Kristyn, I'm going to run out really quick and get a carseat," Niall said realizing they had absolutely nothing prepared for a baby. They were supposed to have nine months to prepare, and now they only had a matter of minutes. "Okay, but please be quick!" Kristyn said as he kissed her, promised he would hurry, and rushed out of the room.
Niall ran into the room right on time. "How are you doing, baby?" he asked as he caught his breath. "I feel like I need to start pushing," she said and Niall's eyes went huge. "I'll be right back!" he said running through the hospital yet again to get Liam. Liam and Niall came rushing into the room in a matter of seconds, and Liam checked Kristyn again and hurried to get everything sat up. "You are 10cm dialated, Kristyn. It's time to push," he said as he got everything situated. Niall got to Kristyn's side, held her hand, and made sure to help her get through everything. After pushing for a little while, Kristyn and Niall finally heard little cries. "She's here," Liam smiled as he sat the baby on Kristyn's stomach, and had Niall cut the cord. "Kristyn, you have delievered a healthy baby girl at 9:13am," Liam smiled as he looked at his neice. It was September 13th too, which is Niall's birthday, and their wedding anniversary. She was delivered on the perfect day. "Okay, you need to deliver the placenta," Liam told her and Kristyn nodded while Niall kept a watch on the baby. Right after, Niall climbed in the bed next to Kristyn and cuddled as they held their little girl. "I already have a name picked out," Kristyn beamed after a minute. "What is it, babe?" Niall smiled looking at his wife. "Kaylyn Rose," Kristyn announced with a smile, and Niall instantly fell in love with the name. "Oh, Kristyn, I love that!" he said as he looked at his little girl.
A short while later, Liam reentered the room to check on Kristyn, and get a chance to hold his new niece. "Knock, knock," he said tapping lightly on the door as he walked in. "Hey," Kristyn said as he approached her. "How are you feeling?" he asked her. "I feel great!" she said as Liam came over to get a better look of the baby. "Can I hold her?" he asked and Kristyn repositioned her. "Of course!" she said handing her over to her brother. As Liam looked at her, he started crying. Kristyn smiled at the sweet moment Liam was sharing with his new little niece. "Well, I have to go do another delivery," Liam said checking his watch and handing Kaylyn gently back to Kristyn. "But Niall, Happy Birthday! And Happy Anniversary, you two!" Liam added as he gave Kristyn a kiss on the head, and made his way to the door. "Thank you!" Niall and Kristyn said as before he left. "Anytime!" he said with a smile as he walked out.
Niall and Kristyn spent the rest of their time in the hospital sitting in the bed, and cuddling with their baby. Later on, they were able to take Kaylyn home, and they were happy to do so. After getting settled, Niall sat down next to Kristyn on the couch and went to Instagram. He posted a picture of his new baby girl with the caption, "Kaylyn Rose Horan. Born at 9:13am on 9/13. Kristyn and I couldn't be happier." It didn't take long for comments to come flooding in saying things such as "congrats!" and "OMG we didn't even know she was pregnant!" Niall and Kristyn laughed at the comments, and then he went to Twitter to post the same thing. More comments rolled in saying the same things from Instagram, and Niall replied to a few of the comments and told that Kristyn and him didn't know she was pregnant either. After getting Kaylyn down to sleep, Niall and Kristyn took it as an opportunity to get some take-out dinner to celebrate their anniversary and Niall's birthday, and spent the rest of the evening enjoying their now family of three. Later that night, Niall and Kristyn fell asleep happily cuddled in each other's arms with Kaylyn next to their bed in her bassinet, and they couldn't be happier.
