Niall and Kristyn had gotten engaged, and were currently dealing with some separation due to Kristyn still living in Nashville. The two of them had really rough times when they were separated for extended periods of time. The two were quite attached, and that's what made their relationship so special, they were inseparable. Currently, Kristyn was in Nashville, and Niall was home for Christmas in Ireland. He flew in a bit early, because he wanted to have plenty of time to spend with his family, and maybe reach out to a few old friends to hang out. But the one person he wanted in Ireland with him most of all was Kristyn. He had mentioned it a few times to her, and they weren't going to know if she was able to get there in time for Christmas until later in the month. He hoped with every inkling in his body that she would, but they weren't sure.
It was getting very close to Christmas, and Niall was beginning to worry whether Kristyn would be able to make it or not, because they were running out of time. He paced the room as he waited for the clock to strike for her to get out of work. He ran a hand through his brown hair, and leaned on his bed when it was finally time to call her. The phone rang a few times, and then Kristyn answered with a "Hey, babe!" "Hey, babe!" Niall said relieved to hear Kristyn's voice. It wasn't the same as seeing her, but it was better than nothing. "How was work?" he asked trying to stall before asking her the question. "Good, how was your day?" Kristyn asked back. "It was good!...So, I know we had talked about maybe you coming to Ireland for Christmas...do you think you'll be able to make it?" he asked hopeful. "I'm sorry, babe. I'm not going to make it this year," Kristyn said through the phone sneakily. "Oh," Niall said and his face instantly dropped. "I'm really sorry, babe!" Kristyn said feeling bad for the boy. "It's okay!" Niall said back trying to cover up the disappointment in his voice, and the tear that was rolling down his face. "I'll see you real soon," Kristyn promised. "Yeah!" Niall said rubbing the tear off his cheek. "I gotta go, but I'll talk to you soon! I love you," Kristyn said needing to get back to packing. "Okay. I'll talk to you then. I love you, bye," Niall said and they hung up. Niall plopped down onto his bed almost lifelessly. He could feel all of his happy emotions and hope literally leave his body. He just missed and loved her so much, he couldn't even imagine spending Christmas without her.
Niall padded down the stairs to get a water out of the fridge when Maura stopped him. "Did you talk to Kristyn?" Maura asked with a smile. "Yep," he said opening his water bottle. "And?" she coaxed out of him. "She can't come," Niall said walking back up the stairs nonchalantly. Greg and Denise, who were sitting at the kitchen table, shared quick looks with each other both knowing that Niall was about to be in for a huge surprise. "Well, that stinks!" Maura said and sat down with them. "Sure does," Bobby said looking up from his newspaper.
Greg and Denise had both been contacted by Kristyn several days prior to give them the rundown, because she needed someone to pick her up from the airport. Greg was more than happy to get her, and surprise his little brother. The three of them kept the secret from everyone, and as the time grew near, they got super excited to see the two reunited. Denise texted Kristyn to let her know what was going on at the house. "Niall just came down the stairs, and told Maura and Bobby you couldn't come. Poor boy is heartbroken, he will be so excited when you come surprise him!" Denise texted Kristyn. "I hate that I had to lie to him, but it'll be so worth it to see the look on his face!" Kristyn texted back.
In the few days leading up to when Kristyn was going to surprise Niall, he had done nothing but mope around the house. He barely came out of his room, and he was beginning to go through extreme withdraws from Kristyn. On Christmas Eve, Kristyn was set to fly in though, and Niall would definitely be much happier.
