Hope you are all well! Much love!
After almost two years of having them, it was finally time for Liam to get his braces off. Liam has mixed feelings on it; he was really excited to get them off, but he was also terrified of the dentist. He had watched Niall get his braces off, and Niall seemed to take it great; however, Niall wasn't afraid of the dentist like Liam was. Liam hadn't slept the whole night before, he just kept thinking about all of the scary tools he had seen the dentist use to take Niall's braces off. Niall had tried to tell Liam it was painless, and that it was a breeze, but Liam wasn't so sure. All he could think about was how scary it was, and how much he hated the dentist. Liam tried to get excited about getting his braces off, but there they sat in the waiting room, and Liam felt the familiar fears coursing through his body. "Liam Payne?" the dental assistant called, and Liam felt his heart start pounding even harder. "You've got this," Louis said noticing Liam's fear, and Liam nodded as they all followed her back to the room.
"Okay, the orthodontist will be in shortly!" she said after setting everything up, and leaving the room. "Are you excited, Li?" Harry asked, and Liam nodded as he shuffled his feet back and forth. "You look nervous," Zayn said and Liam nodded. "We know you hate the dentist, but this is going to be super easy," Louis said. "He's right! Getting your braces off is super easy! All they do is take this little tool that pops your brackets off, and then they clean them really good. You get your retainer, and then you get to go home. None of it hurts, it's just a little pressure if anything," Niall explained. Liam tried to listen to Niall, but all he could focus on was the terrifying tools that were sitting on the tray next to him. The longer he eyed them, the worse his anxiousness got. "Li, I promise. It's easy," Niall said holding Liam's hand, and trying to redirect his attention. "I don't want to do it. Look at them," Liam said getting even more worked up as he continued to look at the tools. "Liam, they don't hurt!" Zayn said laying a hand on his knee. "I still don't want to... maybe I should just keep them," Liam said. "Don't be silly, Li. You've had those forever, and you know they annoy you. Think about it this way, you get a great smile out of them, and plus you don't have to come back every month if you get them off," Harry encouraged, but Liam still wasn't happy in the slightest.
The orthodontist came in momentarily, and Liam's heart rate started going up even more. "Hey Liam! Hey boys! Are you excited to get these off?" the orthodontist asked as he washed his hands. "I guess so," Liam said as he tried to focus on Niall's thumb rubbing over his hand. "You don't sound too excited," the orthodontist laughed. "You know how scared he is of this stuff," Zayn said and the orthodontist nodded. "This is a piece of cake! I promise!" the orthodontist said as he sat down. "Let's just take a look one last look, and make sure everything is good to go," the orthodontist said and Liam opened up. "Yep! Everything looks great!" the orthodontist said. "Okay, here we go if you're ready," the orthodontist said picking up the tool to take them off. Liam shook his head 'no' and the orthodontist nodded. "How about I give you a minute to calm down?" he asked and Liam nodded. He left the room to give the boys time to get him calmed down, and the boys sprang into action. "Liam, you're just fine, love," Harry said noticing how shallow Liam's breathing was getting. "What if it hurts?" Liam asked. "It doesn't, babe. I promise the only thing you feel is a little bit of pressure," Niall said but Liam was still freaking out. "Liam, take a deep breath," Louis said and Liam did as he was told. "Keep going," Louis said guiding Liam through a few more breaths, and then the orthodontist came back in. "Ready?" he smiled and Liam nodded nervously. Niall held his hand, Louis had a hand on his knee, Zayn had a hand on his shoulder, and Harry stood next to him and kept talking to him to keep his attention off what was going on.
The orthodontist worked quickly to get his braces off, and made sure he knew everything going on. "Okay! They're off!" the orthodontist said and sat Liam's chair up. "Already?" Liam asked as he noticed time had flown by. "Yep! Here you go!" he said handing him a mirror, and Liam smiled big. "I like them!" Liam said and smiled at the boys. "They look great, Li!" Niall said smiling. "They do! They look so good!" Zayn, Louis, and Harry complimented. "Thanks, boys!" Liam said still smiling and loving his new smile. After finishing up the appointment, Liam thanked the orthodontist before going home and eating all of the things he wasn't allowed to eat when he had braces, and smiling big all day to show off his new smile.
