Niall and Kristyn were engaged; Niall was in One Direction, and Kristyn was a dentist and owned her own dental practice, which just happened to be her dream job. The two of them lived together, and also with her twin, Liam Payne, Niall's bandmate, best friend, and future brother-in-law. On weekends, they would often spend their whole weekends together, and they would all have a great time. On one Friday evening after they had all gotten home, Niall and Kristyn were sitting in the floor playing a board game. "Aha!" Niall said as he got to move his game piece forward. Kristyn laughed at him and looked at him sarcastically when she noticed that Niall's cheeks looked to be swollen. "Are you feeling okay, babe?" Kristyn asked after she noticed. "Yes, why?" Niall asked cocking his head to the side. "Your cheeks are swollen," Kristyn said as she moved her game piece forward. Niall took his hands up to his cheeks and started massaging them. "Huh. I don't feel anything," Niall said, and Kristyn shrugged her shoulders. "I'll just keep an eye on it," Kristyn said eyeing his cheeks again. "Okay," Niall said as he won the game while she wasn't looking. "Haha!" he said and Kristyn looked down. "Aw man!" she said as Niall laughed at her. "I win again, babe," Niall said and Kristyn grinned. "Yeah, yeah," she said sarcastically. "Set it up again," she laughed planning on winning this time, and they went on about their evening.
Saturday morning, Kristyn was sitting at the table drinking a cup of coffee when Niall came walking down the stairs. "Morning, babe," Kristyn said not looking up from her phone yet. "Morning!" Niall said and she looked up at him, and was slightly taken aback at how much more swollen his cheeks were. "Niall, your cheeks are worse today!" Kristyn said getting up and approaching him. "I'm sure it's fine," Niall said as he walked to start some toast. "Let me see," Kristyn said and Niall sighed as he turned around. "They're swollen bad, babe. You need to get them checked out," Kristyn said running a thumb gently over his chipmunk- looking cheeks. "I'm fine, babe!" Niall said and Kristyn was getting agitated at Niall's arguing. "No, babe. You aren't fine," Kristyn said and Niall rolled his eyes. "I'm sure everything is alright. No need to get anything looked at," Niall said turning around to look at her as he grabbed a water from the fridge. "You're getting it checked and that's final! It could be something serious!" Kristyn said not willing to fight any longer, and Niall grumbled under his breath. "Fine. I'll let you check," Niall finally agreed, and Kristyn nodded. "Thank you," Kristyn said and sent Niall up to get ready to go to her office.
They left a few minutes later, and Niall griped about how nothing was wrong the whole way there. "Well, it won't hurt to check," she said and got out of the car, and Niall knew she was right. The two of them walked into the empty office. Kristyn turned the lights on, and had Niall sit down in a dental chair as she grabbed some gloves and a mask. "Okay, open for me," she said grabbing her tools, and Niall did as he was told. It didn't take long for Kristyn to find the problem, and she knew why his cheeks were a swollen. "No wonder your cheeks are so swollen," she said taking the tools out of Niall's mouth. "Why?" Niall asked getting antsy. "Well, it looks like you have two very deep cavities," she explained and Niall sighed. "I was afraid of that," Niall said with a frown. "I know, babe. I'm sorry. Here's your two options- I can fill them, or I can just take them out," Kristyn explained and Niall thought for a second. "I want you to fill them, I want to keep all of my teeth," Niall decided. "Okay, but it's going to be a very long and painful procedure, because I have to do root canals on them," Kristyn explained and Niall nodded.
Kristyn got Niall sat up, and then she went to go grab the strongest numbing she had. She came back and sat down on the chair, and then started setting up the needles. Niall was watching her closely, and she noticed that he seemed to be nervous about them. "Open up for me," she smiled and put her mask back on. She pulled the needle around, and then she poked him gently. The moment the needle touched Niall's skin, he tensed up. "Ni, you can't do that. You have to stay nice and relaxed for me," Kristyn said and Niall nodded and relaxed in the chair. "I'll count this time. 1,2,3," she said and numbed him on two quickly. "Is it numb?" she asked after they sat there for a second, and Niall gave her a thumbs up. "Okay!" she said and started drilling his cavities out. After she got to the root of the tooth, she scraped out the infection, and then filled it up. "You're doing great, babe," she said noticing Niall had closed his eyes. He laid his hand on her knee, and Kristyn worked to finish the other root canal.
"All done, babe," Kristyn said sitting Niall up in the dental chair. Niall rubbed his numb cheeks, and smiled at her the best he could. "Thanks babe," he tried to say with his numb mouth. "You're welcome," she said kissing him, and he tried to kiss her back. "I can't kiss you," he whines and Kristyn laughed. "Sorry, babe. It'll wear off soon," she said and got to cleaning up the office. The two of them headed towards home after that, since she wasn't open that day, and she had only opened for Niall. "Thanks for going in for me on your day off," Niall said as they were driving home. "Don't thank me, I didn't mind to do it! I just wanted to make sure you were okay, and I'm glad we got your cavities fixed," Kristyn said and Niall held her hand as she drove them home.
When they got back home, Niall yawned from the day's events. "Wanna take a nap?" Kristyn asked and Niall nodded. The two of them went up to her room, and they got into bed. Niall pulled Kristyn close, and they both fell asleep shortly after.
A few hours later, Kristyn could feel Niall shifting. She looked up at him from her place on his chest, and he smiled at her. "How are you feeling?" Kristyn asked looking at him. "Much better thanks to you!" he said and Kristyn looked up at him to get a better look. "Your cheeks look much better!" she said as the swelling had gone down tremendously. "I don't feel like a chipmunk anymore," Niall smiled and Kristyn laughed. "Now for the real test," Niall said leaning up to kiss her. "Yep, feeling is back," he smiled and Kristyn laughed. "You're crazy," she said smacking him on the chest lightly. "Crazy for you," he smiled and Kristyn smiled at him and kissed him again. The two of them went downstairs, and wound up watching movies on the couch, and just took it easy for the rest of the day.
