Sophie was watching TV from the kitchen when she heard a loud thud, and then a cry. She went running into the living room, and saw her six year old little sister, Daisy, sitting on the ground crying her eyes out. Sophie and Daisy were the only two at the house, because their parents were going to be out of town on a business trip for the next five months. Sophie was trying to avoid any injuries while they were gone, but clearly that didn't happen. "What happened?" Sophie asked running over to her sister. "I fell and my mouth hurts really bad!" Daisy said through cries. "Oh goodness," Sophie said trying to comfort her sister, and figure out what she needed to do. That's when Sophie got the idea to take her to their old family dentist, Dr. Anne Styles. They always really loved Dr. Anne, because she was super nice, and she always had availability to do emergency appointments. So, Sophie helped Daisy get her shoes on, and took her out to the car.
As they arrived at the office, they walked into the front desk. "Hi! How can I help you?" the nice lady asked at the desk. "My sister fell and her mouth is really hurting her," Sophie explained and the receptionist typed in the information. "Okay! We will take you right back," she said and the dental assistant walked through the door, and took them back to a room. "The dentist will be right in," she said as she walked out, and Daisy sat down in the dental chair. After a few minutes of waiting, the door finally opened, but it showed a young brunette man instead of Dr. Anne. Sophie started questioning in her mind who he was, and where Anne was. He must have sensed the confusion on Sophie's face. "Hi! I'm Dr. Harry Styles, I'm Dr. Anne's son. I took over as the emergency dentist due to my mother getting older. She isn't working that much anymore," he said smiling and looking at Daisy's paperwork. Dr. Styles seemed really friendly, but that didn't convince Daisy. You could see the fear written on her face. "So, I hear you fell and hurt your mouth," Harry said directing his attention to her trying to get her mind off of her nerves. "Yeah," Daisy said nervously. "Do you mind if I take a look, and see what happened?" he asked her smiling, and she closed her mouth and shook her head no. "I promise, I'm just going to take a look," he said trying to comfort her, but to no avail. He could see she was now shaking, and the fear was evident in her eyes. "Okay! That's alright. Would you like your sister to go first so you can see that everything is okay?" Harry asked Daisy, and looked up to Sophie to see if it was okay. Daisy nodded and Sophie agreed to do it.
Daisy and Sophie swapped spots in the chair, and Harry sat up his tools to begin the exam. "Alright, Daisy, I'm going to have your sister open wide so I can see her teeth," Harry explained smiling and looking Daisy in the eyes, so she would start to trust him. "'Okay, Sophie, open up nice and wide for me," he said and started looking around her mouth to check her teeth. "Awesome, now I'm going to take this little tool and poke around her teeth," Harry said explaining more to Daisy. He did this the rest of the exam, making sure that Daisy was aware of everything he was doing to Sophie, he started joking around to make it more comfortable, and then he finished up. "Alright Sophie! You're done, you have a beautiful smile and very healthy teeth!" Dr. Harry said sitting the dental chair up. "Thank you!" Sophie said and got out of the chair. "Ready Daisy?" he asked her and smiled, and Daisy was finally relaxed enough to have her turn, so she nodded.
"Okay, Daisy. I'm going to just take a look around your mouth first," he said and smiled. Daisy opened up her mouth, and let him look around for any damage that could've been caused from the fall. "Well, it looks like we are going to have to extract one of her baby teeth, cause it's moving from the accident. Then, we will put a space appliance in so her teeth don't move," Harry said smiling and at Sophie and Daisy. Daisy got nervous all over again when she saw Harry take a needle out. Harry noticed her fear immediately, and jumped into action to calm her down. "Hey, this isn't going to hurt! I promise," he said trying to get her mind off of it. "It's just a tiny prick, and then it'll be over really quickly!" Harry said handling it well. Luckily, Daisy trusted him, and opened her mouth when he went to give her the numbing. "Okay, I want you to count to three in your head, you won't even notice it," Harry said and she started counting in her head. By the time she got to three, he had already given her the shot, and was starting the procedure. "Good job! Now, I'm just going to take these tools right here, and get that baby tooth out so it'll make your mouth feel better," Harry explained and got her tooth out with no problems. The rest of the procedure went smoothly, and was over before she knew it.
"You're done, Daisy!" Harry said taking his gloves off. Daisy was very tired after it was all done, but she was extremely happy to not be in anymore pain. "You should come eat dinner with us!" Daisy said to him, and made Harry and Sophie laugh. "Is that okay?" Harry asked and Sophie said yes, and gave him her number and address. "Alright, I'll see you guys tonight!" Harry said. After Harry got off work, he went over to their house to eat. Their dinner was very good, and Daisy fell asleep right after she ate. She could barely hold her head up she was so tired. "I'm going to brush her teeth, and take her up to bed," Sophie said picking her up, and Harry hopped up. "I'll help you brush her teeth, since it's going to be a little sore," Harry said and helped her, and then sat on the couch waiting for Sophie to come back down from putting her in bed.
"I'm back," Sophie sat walking down the stairs. "Hey!" he said and she sat next to him on the couch. "Thank you for dinner!" Harry thanked Sophie. "No problem!" Sophie said back to him. "So, what made you decide to be a pediatric dentist?" Sophie asked him to start conversation. "I just watched my mom doing it as I grew up, and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Plus, kids are so much fun! It's just a great job!" Harry explained. Harry wound up staying the whole night talking to Sophie about their lives and getting to know each other, and it wasn't long after that that they wound up in a happy relationship.
