D11- Best Tom Meme

Lmbo...the one on the right is actually my favorite but I couldn't find it by itself so you all get double the trouble! You're welcome tehehe. Also YOU GUYYYS we're at 9.1k! WHAT? Thank you so so much! Let's get to 10k so you can all see my face!

This one's from the perspective of a reader who never learned to swim (which is kind of ironic, since I'm in a swim league)...enjoy!

It was the middle of the summer and you and Tom had decided to take a trip up to your local lake to get away from everything that had been going on recently. You would have rather been anywhere else, but Tom had insisted. And you had to give in.

So there the two of you were...sitting at your little lakeside beach spot with your umbrella, cooler, towels to lay on, and teeny tiny stereo, just enjoying yourselves. At least that's how Tom thought it was going. You, however, were sick to your stomach just thinking about the hours to come. Going to the lake had been a major risk for you. It gave every chance for your biggest secret to be exposed. But it would have seemed more suspicious if you had declined.

"Hey, Y/N/N, let's go pick up the kayak now! We only have two hours," Tom urged you, nudging your arm with his elbow. The two of you had rented a two-man kayak for part of the day, and ever since you'd arrived, you'd been dreading that moment.

You took a shaky breath, hoping Tom didn't notice, and replied, "Okay, sure!"

"Great!" Tom whooped, helping you up off the ground. The two of you walked slowly to the put-in where your kayak was waiting for you, tied to a nearby post. While Tom went to talk to the rental guy, you tested your toes in the frigid lake water and prayed that it would be shallow enough that you could touch the sand if you fell. But when Tom returned with two life vests over his arm, you mentally heaved a sigh of relief. Floaties.

"Okay, I'm ready," you told him, feeling less like a liar at this point. At least now, if you fell over, you would be hoisted upward.

"Yeah?" Tom asked, pecking you quickly on the lips and grinning. "Me too." You helped him drag the kayak all the way into the water and held it steady while Tom opened the storage hatch and...stashed away the life vests?

"Uhhh, Tom, love?" you squeaked.

"Yes, darling?" He looked up at you, giving you a sweet smile.

"Erm...don't we need those?" Your heartbeat quickened.

"Not really, love. The man said the lake isn't too deep, so they're completely optional to wear, but he's legally obligated to give them to us. I don't think we'll need them at all."

"Right," you croaked. You went physically green, looking at the water lapping at the side of the put-in ramp.

"Are you okay, Y/N?" Tom asked, closing the storage hatch and making his way over to you.

"Y-yeah. I'm fine," you lied, "I just get a little motion sick, that's all."

"But we haven't started moving yet..."

"It's...just the water. Makes me real sick," you ambled a little too quickly. Tom raised an eyebrow.

"Okay, love. If you're sure." He held the kayak steady for you and gestured for you to climb in. You did so, trembling.

He won't let anything happen to me, you thought to yourself, It's not a deep lake. You'll be fine. You probably won't even tip over. Tom climbed in behind you and you helped him paddle away from the ramp and out into the middle of the lake.

You had gotten a lot greener (which, luckily, Tom couldn't see from behind you) and were trying to steady your nerves by taking deep breaths. It was beautiful, you noticed. The lake was surrounded by rolling hills and a bright blue sky. There were paddleboarders and conoes everywhere and the whole thing looked like it had come right out of a picture book. Suddenly, you didn't feel so nervous anymore.

"Ugh, my arms are killing me!" Tom complained after about a half-hour of consistent rowing. "Let's stop here for a bit." He pulled his oar into the kayak, and you did the same.

"In the middle of the lake?" You let out a nervous snort, which Tom took for actual laughter.

"Of course! I'm not rowing all the way back to shore! I'm dying here!" He shook out his arms at you, making you actually laugh. In fact you laughed so hard that you rocked the kayak a little bit. You gasped, holding onto both sides even though you were still right-side up. Tom eyed you again. "You've been acting really weird all day, Y/N," Tom told you.

"I'm fine! I'm fine!" You chuckled, offering a smile that was a little too big.

"Good," Tom told you, "Because then, I can do this!" He reached down at the side of the boat and splashed you with a handful of water. You squealed and burst out laughing, then leaned over to splash him back. Alas, you leaned a bit too far and fell out of the kayak!

"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!" You screamed bloody murder as the cold seized your body. You couldn't feel the bottom and you flailed wildly in the water as your worst fear came true. Your head kept sinking and you gasped for air.

"It's okay, Y/N," Tom laughed, "Just swim back to the boat." He thought you were joking? HE THOUGHT YOU WERE JOKING!

"Tom, I..." your head went under. "I can't..." it went under again. You began to cry. Soon enough, Tom realized what was happening. Shoot, he thought. He stood up and dove off the kayak, swimming to you as fast as he could. He grabbed you under your arms and treaded water as hard as he could, keeping your head up. You, meanwhile, were coughing and spluttering and weeping all at the same time.

"Shh," Tom told you, "It's okay. It's okay Y/N. I'm right here. It's okay. Nothing's going to happen to you. You're alright." He silently kicked himself for not putting it together earlier...your nervousness, the fact that you were terrified of the water...

He heaved you back into the boat before climbing in himself and wrapping you in a towel that he'd packed in the storage port. You were shivering madly, and not entirely with cold. You coughed up some water. "Y/N, why didn't you tell me?" Tom asked gently. You looked at your feet.

"I'm so sorry. I was embarrassed," you answered. "It's kind of stupid to be an adult and have never learned to swim." Your tears began falling again.

"No, it's not," Tom told you, rubbing your back assuringly. "And if anything, I should be the sorry one. You could've died! I almost let you." He said the last bit quietly to himself.

"Don't do that to yourself, Tom. You didn't know. It's my fault for not saying anything."

"No, it's nobody's fault, love. It was an accident. And don't feel bad about not knowing how to swim. I know loads of people who can't. Besides...I'll teach you."

"You will?"

"Yeah. Of course I will. And if you ever need it, I'll be right there to save you from drowning."

"I love you, Tom."

"I love you most."
