Alvaro was waiting for Mia in the living room.
"Ready to go," he asked. Mia nodded and got a jacket. Juanma winked at Alvaro.
At the river Alvaro led them to "their bench". "Do you remember when we were here for the first time" he asked.
"Yes, we ran away from school and you forged my permit" laughed Mia. "We sang. It was a nice afternoon, even if we got into trouble"
"Ramiro couldn't be really angry with me," she said thoughtfully after a moment. "Do you think he guessed it?"
"I think he sensed something that he didn't understand himself. I don't know how to explain that."
"I already know what you mean. Sometimes I also had the feeling. I always had the feeling with him that he saw something special in me."
"That's because you are special, Mia" He took her in his arms. Mia put her head on his shoulder. "Do you know what I'm afraid of," she said. Alvaro shook his head, pushed her away a little and looked at her.
"That something changes between us when you are with your mother".
"What do you mean now? That we don't write, that we don't see each other, what exactly do you mean?"
"Your feelings. I'm afraid that your feelings will change. That they will change your feelings," Mia said.
"They can't do that. You know how much I love you. I would move mountains to be with you. I would dive to the Titanic to get you, no one can make my feelings any different."
"I don't know how to stand not being with you." Alvaro caught a tear with his finger, which ran down Mia's cheek. "I didn't mean to cry," she said softly.
"It's okay that you cry. But you know what, when we're on the way to Juanma with Zoe on Thursday, we'll laugh about it," said Alvaro. Mia nodded. "I will miss you infinitely," she said softly.
"Not as infinite as I will miss you." said Alvaro and hugged her again. He had tears in his eyes himself, but he didn't want to show them to Mia. He hadn't been able to completely take away her fear that might change something, he had seen that in her eyes.
They sat on the bench for a long time and just looked at the water. At Mia the water was endless on the horizon. She had the sea in her mind's eye. "Did Ramiro say anything else?"
"Only that he would like to talk to Mercedes this week. About a lot of organizational issues, but probably also about us children. I think he doesn't know mom anymore himself."
Alvaro looked at the clock. It was almost time to leave again. He didn't want to be late for lunch right away. Mia saw his look and asked "Do we have to go?" Alvaro nodded.
They walked slowly to the car. "At least it's not raining today," said Alvaro with a smile.
On the drive back to Ramiro, Alvaro held Mia's hand throughout. He had hidden the letter with the bracelet in her pocket with the laundry kit. At the latest in the evening she would need something from it and find it. He thought it was a shame not to see her reaction, but he knew she would be happy.
When they got to Ramiro's, the other three were already waiting. Isabel took Alvaro tightly in her arms. "Report if something is wrong and take care of you. We'll see you on Thursday, okay?" She hugged him again. Ramiro watched the scene and was pleased that Isabel had grown so fond of Alvaro.
Saying good Bye to Ramiro was also very difficult for Alvaro. Juanma brought him to his car with Mia. Florencia would also come soon to pick up Juanma.
Juanma put Alvaro's bag in the trunk and then went to him. He gave it a short squeeze and said "take are of you , captain. We're in contact, okay? See you soon."
then he went back to the front door. He waited out of sight to give Alvaro and mia some privacy. Alvaro swallowed and took Mia in his arms. "There it is, the moment we both wanted to delay," he said while stroking her back. Mia took a deep breath. She wouldn't cry now. She would be strong for Alvaro now. She looked at him and swallowed. "Time will pass quickly. I'm sure everything is great with Lupe and Gaspar and she has a lot to tell. And maybe your mother is just happy that you are here," she said.
Alvaro tried to keep the doubt out of his gaze. "And you will do a lot of nice things with Ramiro and Isabel. I want to know every detail." he said and smiled at Mia. She took him again in her arms and he furtively wiped his eyes.
"We're writing, ok? As soon as I arrive I'll write to you:" Mia nodded. "I will wait for your message." she said. She accompanied him to the driver's door. Before he got in, she took him in her arms. "Don't lte anybody stress you," she said.
"Neither do you," replied Alvaro. They kissed again and then he drove off. Mia waved until he could no longer be seen and didn't notice that Juanma was standing behind her. He took her in his arms and gave her a hug. "Three days, Mia. He'll be back on the fourth day," Mia nodded. JUanma took her hand and went with her to Isabel and Ramiro.
