The penultimate day of the internship began and Alvaro was back early with Penny in the emergency room. An ambulance was announced and Penny said "I'll see how the situation is, then I'll call you" Alvaro nodded.

He knew his way around by now and cleared away a few bandages - Penny was informed up by the paramedics and they literally ran into the treatment room. Alvaro couldn't see much, he just saw the old man carrying a bag of medicines. When he wanted to enter the treatment room, the door slammed in his face and Alvaro walked over to him.

"Can I help you?" He asked.

The old man said," My Maria, she didn't wake up this morning. I've packed all of her medicines together, she needs them. "Alvaro looked through the windows of the door and saw that the monitor was showing a cardiac arrest. Penny had the patient ventilated and shocked, sometimes they hear ." .. "and away". He stopped by the man and said, "I'll take you to the waiting room and get you some water, okay?"

The old man let himself be led in silence and then said, as he sat down, "Maria needs her medication." said Alvaro and took the bag from him. He went to get water and saw in passing that Maria was still being shocked. When he got back to the man, he said: "We have been married for 52 years. It has never happened that she does not wake up." Alvaro nodded. "Dr. Da Silva will let you know immediately if there is anything new." he said.

It wasn't long before Penny came around the corner. The face said all  and she unfortunately had to explain to the old man that she couldn't get his wife back. "But maybe if she takes  the medication-" Penny sits on the other side of him and put her hand on his. She looked at Alvaro briefly and said "She came here already with a cardiac arrest. We tried everything, but unfortunately ..."

The old man looked at Penny and his eyes filled with tears. Alvaro swallowed. "Would you like to see her again," said Penny. The man nodded. Alvaro helped him up and Penny said quietly to him. "You don't have to do that to yourself, I'll stay with him, you did a great job." ALvaro followed the two, but stopped at the door. Penn left the man alone in the treatment room and went to Alvaro. She put her arm around his shoulders and said, "I'm sorry that you lived this. Sometimes we save lifes, sometimes we lose lifes. I'll get a nurse to stay with him and we'll go have a drink, ok." ? " Alvaro nodded.

He went into the lounge before Penny. When Penny came after, he had his cell phone in his hand and Penny saw a photo of Mia. "Is that your girlfriend?" she asked. Alvaro nodded. "She's very pretty. Give her a call, you'll be good to hear her voice," Penny said gently. "She works too," said Alvaro. "Then write to her, maybe she has a moment." She went to the coffee machine and brought Alvaro a soda. Mia had time to speak and Alvaro called her. "We want to start right away, we're still waiting for a couple of children" said Mia

"I wish you a lot of fun, I just had to hear your voice for a moment." said Alvaro.

"What happened?"

"We lost a patient. I'll tell you later, I just needed you voice for a  moment. I love you" "I love you too," Mia said.

"Take as much time as you need," said Penny. Alvaro got up with her. "No, let's move on. Everything is ok"

Penny nodded. She would watch Alvaro closely. She put her arm around his shoulder again and they went back to the waiting room.

Mia and Tom went out with the kids. Somebody else was supposed to come with them, but Mia was glad Tom had stepped in. They went to an animal park with the children. It was a great day and the kids had a lot of fun. "They all love you, did you notice that?" asked Tom. "A little," Mia said. "But that's for sure because I'm new." "And because you're nice to them," said Tom. "You have a feeling for the children. That's great"

The children were between the ages of 3 and 6 so they had to be careful. At the end of the day, Mia would be world champion in cleaning  noses, putting on plasters and opening drinking bottles.

She matched Alvaro's end of shift and called him. He had just got to his room. She heard his voice fail now and then when he talked about the death. He hadn't seen the old man again. after that he and Penny had only had easy cases. and Alvaro wasn't sure Penny had turned the ambulances over to other doctors on duty for the day.

He said he would be on duty with Penny until 5 p.m. on Friday and then come to Ramiros. Roberto and Mia were allowed to leave the home after their lunch break. They had just hung up when Roberto knocked on Mia's door. Mia let him in and saw that he had been crying. "What's the matter? "She asked.
