Bucky gets downstairs and the minute he sees Steve his heart melts. Steve was trying to get himself together before Bucky came downstairs, he didn't want to persuade Bucky in any way. If Bucky was ready to forgive him, then he would, but Steve understood if he wasn't ready and he didn't want to push him. He had already done enough damage.
"H-hey..." Steve says as Bucky walks in the room. "Hey." Bucky says. They stand their awkwardly for a second and just look at each other. Steve knows it's his turn to say something but he doesn't want to mess anything else up. He was scared he would say the wrong thing, again.
"I don't know where to start Bucky...I am so sorry. And I promise I didn't mean what I said. It just slipped out and I regret it more than anything. I was angry but I had no right to say that." Steve says. "No. You didn't." Bucky says.
"I know. Believe me I know I messed up, bad. Our children, all of them, even the baby we lost, they're yours too and I never should've made you feel otherwise. I can't tell you enough how sorry I am Bucky." Steve says. Bucky softens and he walks closer to Steve. "Steve you have no idea how it felt when you said that to me." Bucky says.
"I know I don't. I would give anything to take back what I said. And if you're not ready to forgive me, I get it. I understand if you wanna just turn around and walk back upstairs." Bucky sits on the bed next to Steve and Steve's surprised. By his attitude, he didn't think he would forgive him. Of course this didn't mean he was. Right?
Bucky leans in and kisses Steve softly at first. Then he deepens the kiss. Steve doesn't object. He wouldn't jeopardize this moment he was having with Bucky over the questions he had running through his mind right now. He stayed in the moment until Bucky pulled away. "I missed you." Bucky whispers to Steve and plants another soft kiss on Steve's lips.
"I missed you too. I'm sorry." Steve says. "I know what you said wasn't true, and I know you didn't mean it, I get where you were coming from, but what you said also really hurt. It made me feel like our children weren't mine. And that's not okay." Bucky says. "I know." Steve says.
"I forgive you. But if you say anything like that to me again, it's not gonna end like this Steve. There won't be a happy ending. I've spent too long fighting, I'm done fighting. And I love you, but I'm not gonna let myself fall into a hole everytime we fight because you take it too far." Bucky says.
Steve understood where he was coming from, he simply nodded his head and said "okay." And then he wrapped Bucky in a hug and held him for dear life. "I love you." Steve says. "I love you." Bucky says.
