It Never Even Crossed My Mind

You were shocked at what you were hearing. You didn't know how to address it because you thought Steve would never do something like this. And he was your husband. So you were giving him the benefit of the doubt and listening to him.

"You're not leaving us for Peggy. So why do you want one of the stones?" You ask him. "I'm not leaving you for Peggy. I'm not leaving any of you at all. I love you, I love our family. But you and I both know it's not whole." Steve says.

And then you know. He wasn't going back for Peggy. He was going back for the baby you had lost. But how? It was never born? How would he get the baby back?  And it wasn't the only thing you had to worry about. You still had to explain everything to Bucky.

"Our baby?" You whisper, tears filling your eyes so you almost couldn't see. "Yea. Our baby." He says. "How? How is it gonna work?" You ask. You were wracking your brain for any way you could get the baby back when it happened but you never came up with anything. You still couldn't.

"I think I'd need the reality stone. I have to talk to Tony and Bruce. But I might be able to alter what happened, so we get the baby back, you'd still have to carry it, if this works the way I think it will." He explains.

"What if that's not how it works?" You ask. You couldn't get your hopes up too much because if you couldn't get the child back that you lost, you didn't know if you could handle it. So you tried not to hope too hard for now.

"The reality stone will work. All the research I've done on it, it will, we just need to figure out how to get it. It can alter reality, so we can alter it whatever way we want to, and it won't mess anything up." Steve says.

You hug him tight and cry into his shoulder. "I love you so much." You cry. "I love you too sweetheart." He says. "We're gonna talk to Bucky together and get this all cleared up, okay? I know he didn't mean to yell or tell you to leave he just gets upset and worked up, he thought you were leaving and he was scared. I was scared too. You know he loves you Steve, I don't want you guys to fight." You say, rambling.

"I know. I get where he was coming from. And I could've explained myself quicker and this wouldn't have happened. It's okay. We can go talk to him." Steve says. "Okay."

"But you know I would never do that, right? I would never leave any of you, not for her, not for anybody. Especially not for her." He says. "Have you ever thought about it though?" You ask. "The thought never even crossed my mind." Steve says.
