Soulmates

Or Worse

Steve went to go get all of you food so you're all alone with Bucky. You're looking at him trying to figure out what's going through his head.

"Why're you looking at me like that?" He smiles and looks down embarrassed. "I'm reading your mind." You smile back and run your fingers across his stubble. "Please don't."

"Then tell me what you're thinking." You can tell he's withered. Steve could only try and force him to sleep so much. His body wouldn't let him. His mind wouldn't let him.

"I don't ever want to have to do that again. I don't know how I would. Steve helped as much as he did but..." you shake your head, knowing what he's saying. "But you pushed him away. Because you were scared." He nods.

"We're okay now. He gets it because I've been doing it for a hundred years, it's something I need to work on and I'm trying." You pull him up to you and kiss him. "I missed you." He smiles. "I missed you too."

Steve comes back with your food and you leave it on the tray not eating it yet. "Aren't you gonna eat?" Steve pushes your food back in front of you. "Eventually."

"It gets cold fast." Bucky says. You laugh, "I can heat it up." Steve hands you a French fry. "Reheated French fries really suck." You take the French fry out of his hand and eat it. "They do suck."

"Yea so eat." Bucky says, growing aggravated, wanting you to eat. "Okay I will." You eat another French fry. "You're still standing there." You look between both of them. "I know you didn't finish it all."

"Do you want a broccoli?" You hold one out to Bucky. "No, i'll take a fry though." He takes a fry. "Ok yea have as much as you want." Steve takes a French fry. "Okay great."

"Y/n come on we have to see if it worked. You have to try and use your powers." Tony had been hounding you all week about testing out your powers.

"No. I don't want to. I have them back, I took my powers back. That's what I wanted. I'm not ready to use them."

"You have to try because I need to make sure it worked correctly. For all we know I may have given you fire powers instead of ice."

"And how do you know I won't hurt anyone? Huh? That won't be on you when someone dies. It'll be on me." That was why you havnt yet. You were scared of hurting someone.

"I'll have you in a bunker. It's isolated. It'll just be you and there are cameras so we can see everything that goes on. Nobody will be in harms way."

"What about her? She's there, what if they malfunction. Can you tell me with certainty that she won't get hurt?" Bucky and Steve didn't like how Tony was pressuring you but they knew you had to try eventually.

They just didn't want you getting hurt. Which was understandable. And if they didn't work the way they were supposed to you could get hurt. Or worse.
