Hardin's POV-

I've never really spoken to anyone about my strained relationship with my own father, it's definitely not the normal father/son relationship that you expect. He gets quite aggressive towards me over the smallest things, from when I get in trouble at school or I don't do well on my exams.

But this Christmas, Ron's family and our friends are spending some time with my dad and Remus at Grimmauld Place and you can just guess that I am not looking forward to this at all. I know that he is going to have a go at me regardless of what I say to him...

"Here we are, 12 Grimmauld Place!" Mr Weasley announces with the front door opening not a second later, Remus standing there with a bright smile on his face.

"Please do come in!" Remus invites us in but ends up stopping me at the end with a light tug on my jumper. "When your father asks about your exam results, be careful with what you say, Hardin, he is not in the best mood at the current moment."

"I've lived with him for long enough, I know better than to say something stupid and get my ass in trouble..."

Remus knows all about how quick to anger my father is but doesn't know about the fact that he has hit me once or twice so I just nod my head and walk inside to find my father sitting at the head of the table.

"Hardin, good to see you, son." Dad looks at me with a neutral expression as I take my seat next to my girlfriend. "Are you going to sit there and tell me that you failed all of your exams or are you going to lie to your old man?"

I can hear the sarcastic tone in his voice so I have no choice to tell him the truth despite my mind desperately wanting to say something different but he knows if I'm lying or not, like he has some superpower to identify the lies that I've told him.

"I have not passed all of my exams, Father."

"Typical of you at this point, isn't it? What did you do wrong this time around?"

I go to answer but Mrs Weasley steps in, defending me in an instant.

"You always seem to put harsh expectations on Hardin, Sirius! He's just a boy! He's your son and you should be proud no matter what grade he gets..."

"Molly, I understand that but in the family that I was raised in, it was an insult to the name to get something that isn't a pass when it came to examinations." My father sighs.

"Hardin isn't going to be perfect, he's a kid for crying out loud! You need to stop having this kind of expectation for a boy his age!" Molly continues arguing for my behalf and I can just see my father getting more and more frustrated as the second go by.

"I would have expected you to have the same mindset about your children but apparently by having set expectations, I'm suddenly the bad guy! Why don't you just tell the Ministry of Magic about my location and get me sent back to Askaban?!" My father puts all of attention on himself and plays the victim card in this game in an attempt of trying to gain sympathy.
