Gray was still standing there as the pack came to Ember and let her check them. There were a few new members, and they didn't trust Ember yet. So, she let them smell her and they let her check them. After the last one she saw that Koda wasn't there. Neither was Kojak or his pack; the only one of Kojak's pack that was here was Nanook.
Ember figured Kojak's pack was with him but where were they. Ember looked at Nanook and asked, "where's Koda and Kojak?" Kojak was a white wolf like Koda but had sky blue eyes. Nanook looked to the forest then to Ember then a little behind her at Gray but didn't growl. Nanook then turned and headed back to the forest.
Gray was surprised by Ember's question as he thought 'how well does she know the pack to be able to tell there were some missing and know which ones?' Ember stepped back a couple steps and Gray grabbed her arm gently and said, "we have to go, what if they're not alone." Ember pulled her arm out of his hand and waited. When the pack got to the edge of the forest they turned and looked at her expectedly. Ember waved and they howled as they ran into the forest.
Ember turned to go inside when she saw one of the teachers a little red in the face. He had dark brown hair and jade green eyes. He was looking at Ember as he said, "you know I have to tell your parents about this." She walked past him and said, "what are they going to do? put up another fence." he said, "no but if that pack gets that close to the fence again, they will send out a hunting party."
Ember froze in place for a second at his words as she was reminded of Evelyn's words. He then came up to her and said, "they're just trying to protect you."
