It worked when he kissed her, she completely stopped thinking. she was shocked she couldn't figure out why he kissed her. Especially after she stabbed him as she relaxed and stopped trying to get to the knife, he pulled away and put his coat on her. Before pushing her into the portal as she fell, she saw Jack behind Gray.
Ember thought 'he must have come with them to save me.' Jack wasn't too happy that Gray kissed Ember. Jack didn't believe a shifter and hunter should be together even if there was a treaty. Ember lost her energy as she fell. she had been fighting herself and Demetrius's control.

She was angry the second she recognized the coat and noticed blood on it.
