37. Synchronous

The moment when time stopped, it was the sign that Thorn was waiting. He summoned his legion of sceadu to scour Earth. He knew all too well that he only had a few seconds, sixtieth seconds to be exactly before time resumed. In this slim window of chance, he must locate the Star Child.

"My lord," The sceadu began to speak.

A sceadu's voice was like a million of voices talking softly in a monotone echo-like way.

"Unfortunately, we did not find the Star Child."

"NO!"

Thorn screamed. When he did, all materials made of glass exploded inside his penthouse suite.

"But, we may have located North." The sceadu said.

Thorn as if bipolar easily changed his emotional state from pure rage to giddy.

"Do tell."

"As we were scouring all over this planet to find Star Child, we detected an entity with an enormous energy. "

"Interesting." Thorn said as he looked at the horizon from his suite's broken window.

"Go forth and make preparations. I will follow soon."

"Yes, my lord."

The sceadu left Thorn's presence.

Later that evening, Thorn entered the coffee shop. The shop did not have any customer. The owner, a woman in her probably in her late twenties, greeted him.

Thorn whispered something and the woman was bewitched. He asked the owner to take him to the kitchen. Once inside the kitchen, he waved his right hand and the woman became unconscious.

He waved his right hand again. By then, the woman's mouth was gagged by an illuminous patch and her wrists and ankles were bound by an illuminous rope.

"I want you to chase the owner of the apartment here." Thorn said as he prepared the tea.

"Yes, my lord." The sceadu replied.

The sceadu had been following Ajax since he and Huntley stepped out of his apartment. They made sure that Ajax could sense their presences. In fact, they directed him to enter the coffee shop by whispering the idea to him during the chase.

Thorn welcomed Ajax to the shop and served him a cup of tea and pound cake.

Ajax took a sip of the hot tea. Half way through drinking the hot concoction, he felt dizzy. Suddenly, the cup slipped from his hand and shattered on the floor. His head hit the table as he became unconscious.

"You know what to do."

"Yes, my lord."

The sceadu left his master. In less than a minute, a beam of light shoot out from Ajax's apartment.

A minute or less when the sceadu left, a beam of light shoot from Ajax's apartment. The stripe of light stayed lit for almost ten minutes before it disappeared.
