I always knew that I wanted something big to happen during the winter season. I absolutely adore Colby's character as I felt like you guys did too. As crazy as it sounds I chose to kill Colby because when you love a character so much there's more emotion towards whatever happens to them. So to answer you're question I had always planned to kill of Colby's character, even if sometimes I regret it.

Ill be honest this thought never came to mind when writing but I will say that Shawn loved teaching Mia's particular class so much that he didn't want to leave. He had a pretty strong and important relationship with Hayes, as well as got to see Mia everyday, so he wanted to stay teaching at their school.
