A/N: Long chapter! I was listening to Epic the Musical while writing and got a little carried away with the word count. XD I hope you don't mind!

-------------------------------------

When you were finally able to get your emotions under control, Conan led the way back to the others. Your emotions were still raw, but sadness was no longer predominant. You were determined. That little old man had opened his heart to you, mere minutes before he died. The least you could do was bring his killer to justice.

Nakamori locked down the crime scene and called for the homicide unit. Everyone was made to wait.

"We both know this wasn't Kid, so what's the plan?" You whispered so as not to draw attention from Ran or the others.

"What do you remember?" Conan asked in a low voice.

You pulled a notebook and pen from your bag. You drew a rough outline of the room from the quick glimpse you'd seen. "There was a desk behind the painting with an office chair here. There was a stool here and a stack of canvases there." You pointed to the different points on the room layout you'd scribbled down.

"Three windows along this wall with various supplies on the windowsills." Conan added, pointing to the wall opposite the door. "As well as a table here, here, and there." He continued, pointing to empty places in your room layout. "Do you remember anything from when we entered the crime scene?"

You placed your finger where the door was and closed your eyes. "The officers broke down the door." You started. "I heard something that sounded like fabric rubbing against itself from this direction." You moved your finger a short jolt straight out from the door. "Then the clatter of the paint brushes a bit further away." You moved your finger to the general area of the window.

"You didn't see anything else at that time?"

You shook your head. "I didn't see any other figures in the room. When Rat Stache found Mr. Kanbara I wasn't looking for anything else. Since we got there rather promptly... there was a slight chance he was still alive."

"Makes sense." Conan nodded. "You said you heard the sound of fabric. Are you sure it wasn't the curtains?"

You pinched the bridge of your nose. Your head still throbbed behind your brows. "I thought it was closer than that, but my attention went to Mr. Kanbara, so I might not be remembering it quite right."

"We'll keep it in mind." Conan muttered, as he stared down at the simple diagram.

"There's one other thing." You started.

He looked up from the floor plan. "What is it?"

"I don't think the relationship between Mr. Kanbara and Rat Stache was good." You started. "When I talked to Mr. Kanbara, he was anxious. He said his son blamed him for making things difficult for him, but that he was trying to make it up to him."

Conan's eyes narrowed. "You think it was the son?"

"I'm trying not to jump to conclusions." You sighed. "I do think it might be connected, but I can't say that makes him the killer."

A commotion outside drew everyone's attention. The door opened, and the cacophony of the reporters filled the house. A familiar brown hat pushed through the reporters.

"You took your time, you old badger." Nakamori grumbled.

"Ah, Nakamori!" Mickey's voice boomed. "Fill me in."

"I can tell you, but shouldn't I brief your detectives too?"

"Eh?" Mickey looked behind him. "Are they still stuck in that crowd?"
