Elements from Last Wizard of the Century and OVA 10

The Phoenix's Piety. That was Kid's target this time around. You looked down at the picture. It was part of a rather grand art piece. The full piece was a solid gold phoenix, with gems for eyes and more embedded throughout the body. The real prize though, was what it held in its raised talon. An exquisite orange diamond shaped like an egg. It was apparently based on some legend of a phoenix in Egypt that would carry the ashes from its predecessor in a ball of myrrh to bury at the Temple of the Sun.
You tapped your finger on your chin. "Strange..." You muttered, looking over the papers strewn in front of you.
"You're sure the police are being stopped by the owner?" Kaito asked, looking down at the papers past his shake.
"I heard it from Nakamori himself." You nodded. "Apparently, the day of your heist coincides with some sort of anniversary. The hotel owner doesn't want the police presence to be noticed by his guests."
"That makes things simpler."
"It stinks of deception." You reiterated, as you bit into a fry.
Kaito shrugged. "Well, we'll find out soon enough." He hummed as he took a sip from his shake.
"We should put some countermeasures in place to be safe." You mused. You scanned the hotel blueprints. "What's this here?"
Kaito looked past your finger. "Some sort of security gate. But it doesn't show up on any of the newer blueprints." He muttered past his straw. "I had Jii look into it, and it doesn't seem to be used anymore."
"Could it be used during the heist?"
"There are no controls for it inside the hotel anymore." A smirk lifted the mischievous boy's lips. "Maybe we could borrow it~" He hummed. "Think you could give me a hand with that?"
You chuckled and shook your head. "Alright. I'll see what I can do." You scribbled a note in your notepad to remind yourself, before turning your attention to the aerial map. "Next is your escape. Nakamori can't get in any helicopters, so escaping by glider should be relatively easy."
"And if we can get that security gate working, I won't have to worry about using a decoy." Kaito added.
"Your escape route towards the forest does seem like the best bet." You noted. "When you reach this access road, Jii will be waiting to pick you up, right?" You gestured towards a small road marked on the map.
"Yep."
"Judo's pretty motivated this time." You hummed. "I'd have Jii pick you up here instead." You pointed to a blank spot on the map.
"What's there?"
"It's an old approach road used by emergency vehicles. I've used it a few times to get to an old hideout of mine. It doesn't see much use anymore since they built those access roads, so I doubt even the police would think of it." You explained. "Jii will have better cover there, so he won't have to worry about being remembered by passersby."
Kaito nodded, and marked the spot on the map. He sat back with his shake. "We should do this more often. It's more fun planning like this." He grinned.
"Sounds like a blast." You glanced down at your phone. "But, it looks like our time is up."
"You have to leave already?"
"Sorry, but my ride's here." You sighed as you slid your laptop into your bookbag, and slung it over your shoulder. "But, I look forward to the heist. It's been a nice distraction."
