"Make sure you're holding your pencils properly. And write the kanji in the correct stroke order." Ms. Kobayashi called to the class.
You stared down at your notebook. The lines were blurred, and you couldn't quite make out the kanji. When you'd woken up, your head had felt like an over inflated balloon. Now, you were freezing, and your head was throbbing. You placed your forehead on the desk. The cool wood soothing despite your chill. Your eyes fluttered shut.
"Rin?"
You jumped at the voice, nearly falling out of your seat. Ms. Kobayashi looked down at you worriedly. "Sorry, Ms. Kobayashi." You mumbled. You shakily picked up your pencil again.
"You aren't one to fall asleep in class..."
"I... uh... stayed up late last night." You lied.
You saw something moving in your periphery and flinched away. Ms. Kobayashi pulled away the hand that had been reaching towards your forehead. Shit.
The bell rang. "All right! Lunch time!" Genta cheered.
Ms. Kobayashi turned away from you. "Oh, class? I want you all out of the classroom during your lunch break. I have to meet someone here!"
"Yes, Ma'am!" The kids chorused as they all jumped up. You didn't move. With how much the room was swimming, you weren't eager to do any abrupt moves.
"Are you coming, Rin?" Ayumi called from across the room.
"Ye..." You started.
"Actually, I have to discuss something with Rin, so you five go ahead." Ms. Kobayashi interrupted.
"Okay!" Mitsuhiko chirped, as they hurried towards the door.
Conan hesitated, but finally followed after them.
When the classroom was empty, Ms. Kobayashi turned back to face you. She crouched down beside you. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine. Just tired."
She gave you a disapproving look. "If that's so, would you mind me checking your temperature?"
"I... well..." You stumbled over your words, trying in your addled state to think of an excuse. Finally, you relented. "Alright..."
Ms. Kobayashi's cool hand pressed into your forehead. "You're burning up!" She exclaimed. "You should be at home!"
"Please don't send me home!" You pleaded. Unfortunately, your words just made her even more concerned. "I... Mr. Mouri is on a case, and Ran has to focus on her own studies." You mumbled. "The day's almost over, so please..."
Ms. Kobayashi's expression softened. "Alright, but you're going to rest until class is over. If I feel like you're getting worse, I'm sending you home." She thought for a moment, before smiling. "I guess you'll have to be my accomplice."
"Wait... what?"
--------------------------------------
"Rin's taking a while." Ayumi mused worriedly.
"Do you think she's in trouble?" Mitsuhiko asked.
"Ms. Kobayashi probably noticed she's sick." Haibara muttered, as she turned the page of her book.
"She's sick?!" The three kids gasped.
"Yeah. She's been trying to hide it since this morning." Conan sighed. "That's why she picked the seat furthest from everyone."
"Why didn't she stay home?" Ayumi mumbled.
"Yeah, my mom says it's not good to go out when you're sick." Genta nodded.
