A terrible scream echoed through the air. (Y/N)! Conan desperately tried to move, but his body wouldn't respond. He couldn't open his eyes or move a finger. Her broken sobs rattled through the air. Move. Move, dammit! He screamed at his useless body. They're killing her. Tears poured from Conan's eyes. He'd caused this. She wanted nothing to do with the plan. He talked her into it. His hubris had damned them both. Now he was bleeding out in some back alley, forced to listen as the girl he loved was slowly torn apart.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..."
"Shinichi?"
Doc? Did Haibara tell him something happened?
"Oi, Kudo, are ya awake?"
Hattori? What's he doing here? What's going on?
A hand grabbed his arm, and he jolted. His eyes shot open, panic hammering against his chest. Hattori watched him worriedly from the end of a bed. Agasa stood by his side, equally worried. A steady beep filled the room, and the smell of strong cleaners filled his nose. His arm was immobilized in a cast, and bandages restricted his chest.
"Wh--" His voice cracked- his throat terribly dry.
"Yer in tha hospital." Hattori explained. "The police found ya in an alley."
Conan shook his head. "(Y/N)..." He croaked.
Hattori and Agasa's expressions fell, and they shared a worried look. A knife twisted in his chest. He pushed himself up. Agony shot through his body.
"You shouldn't move, Shinichi!" Agasa chastised.
"She's alive." Hattori stated.
Conan froze and looked up at him.
"But she was in a bad way when they found her." He continued. "They have officers guardin' both yer rooms, but nobody's been able to talk to her."
"Why?" Conan panted.
"They're havin' to keep her pretty sedated right now. Apparently, she keeps havin' meltdowns when anyone tries to talk to her." Hattori shrugged.
"Do you know how she is?" He asked. "Anything at all?"
Hattori took a steadying breath. "She's got a lotta broken bones, and she's covered in cuts and bruises." He started. "They found her danglin' from wires in the ceilin'. From what I overheard it seems like she fell through several floors."
Conan felt his stomach knot. "Can I see her?"
"Tha officers are gonna want to talk to ya, but..."
"I'll go get your doctor." Agasa interrupted. "You're in no condition to be moving right now."
"Oh, ya, that's fair." Hattori relented. Agasa hurried out of the room.
"I have to see her."
"Kudo, yer lucky to be alive." Hattori countered. "Don't push yerself ."
"Please." He wasn't ashamed to beg. He could still hear her. The terrible screams that tore from her throat, the broken sobs as she begged for the pain to stop, the weak cries when the torture paused. He'd been forced to hear it all as he drifted in and out of consciousness- unable to move. After all that, what use was his pride?
Hattori looked towards the door, grappling with the decision. He ruffled his hand in his hair. "Gaaah. Fine! But don't go blamin' me if ya get worse." He growled.
With Hattori's help, Conan was able to stand, albeit unstably. The two of them made their way out of the room and started down the hall. Conan immediately spotted two officers flanking a door just at the end of the hall. He quickened his pace, ignoring the waves of nausea that accompanied the throbbing pain.
