Lounging upon a trash bag, Sonya didn't even realize that she was no longer alone until she heard a small voice, "Mind if I drop by?" Getting to her paws, she found Buddy standing before her. Gently, he placed a white flower at her feet. Blushing, Sonya pointed out, "Been at least a week and a half since you went back to the life of a pet. Still remember what I taught you?" A grin spread across Buddy's face as he replied, "Oh yeah, I remember!"
Grinning back at the dachshund, the female pug retorted teasingly, "Then show me whatcha got!" Leaping over Buddy, Sonya peered over her shoulder as she tore down the street. Not too far behind, Buddy chased after her. The two ran for what seemed like hours.
"You'll never catch me Buddy!" Sonya shouted, laughing. Looking back, she suddenly realized that Buddy was beginning to slow down and was panting heavily. He also appeared to stumble around a bit. Concerned, the female pug ran back as Buddy laid down on the sidewalk.
Chest heaving, Buddy murmured hoarsely, "It's nothing. My lungs just tightened up there." He wheezed quietly. Sitting down next to him, Sonya leaned forward a little bit to hear his heartbeat. As Buddy slowly regained his breath, she hesitantly rested her head against his front paws, listening to the beating of his heart.
