Growing Concern

Pepe was truly concerned about his friend Leonard by now.

Even though the chihuahua did see the poodle at times, Pepe couldn't remember the last time they had a good conversation. Whenever they talked, it was brief. Often, only one word was exchanged between them. Also, Pepe noticed that Leonard acted slightly strange during their talks.

The other thing is that Leonard also didn't seem to hold any parties recently. In fact, the entire apartment building no longer heard the usual heavy metal that played throughout the day. Plus, no one had seen the poodle anywhere at Pops' place either. It was like the poodle had vanished without a trace.

As Pepe was contemplating this, Chloe suddenly appeared at his window, giving the chihuahua a heart attack. "Sorry Pepe, didn't mean to scare you," the tabby cat murmured an apology as she helped him to his feet. Handing him an envelope, she added, "But I had to deliver this to you. I have no idea who it's from though."

Waiting for Chloe to leave, Pepe quietly opened the envelope. Inside, he found a small letter with specific instructions not to tell anyone. When he finished reading it, Pepe gazed upward and thought silently, Of all the people, why me?!
