Audrey sat by the window of her hotel room, smoking a cigarette and looking down at the city of Paris.

Jeff went in and out, leaving the gifts that came for her birthday.

"Can you drop them at V's?" She asked, without looking back at him.

"I knocked on her door but she refused to open."

"Then just take them somewhere else. You room maybe."

"The curtains are only on this floor. My room is down and there's no restricted staff entry so anyone can see that you didn't get the-"

"I don't think they'll the gifts are meant for me just by looking at them."

"Everyone knows it's your birthday."

Audrey sighed. "I've heard this word so much this month that I feel like throwing up at the mention of it."

"I can come by later. I'll just drop them off collectively-"

"Is everything okay?"

Audrey turned around at Cedric's voice. "When did you arrive in Paris?"

"Last night." Cedric sat down at the bed.

"Audrey wants to rest-" Jeff began but she cut him off.

"Have you got some champagne?"

"You drank the ones I had last night." Jeff answered.

She phone rang and she ignored it. "Can you get some more?"

"Alright."

"Some for me, too, please." Cedric said.

Jeff nodded and went down into the lobby. She saw Vanessa standing by the reception, signing an autograph for a little boy.

He went over to make sure she wasn't being bothered.

Vanessa smiled at him and introduced the boy.

They talked a little and the boy's mother soon took him away.

"Why are you here? You refused to open the door."

"The network is f*cked up in my room. Mom called because Audrey wasn't picking up."

"She has a visitor."

"Who?"

"Cedric."

"Cedric? Why?"

Jeff shrugged. "They asked for more champagne."

"Should I go see what it is that they talk about that they feel the need to meet so often nowadays?"

"It'll just get awkward for you. And they'll think you're being paranoid."

"I'm not being unreasonable, am I?"

"Miss Pierce!" A female voice called.

Jeff and Vanessa turned to look back.

Vanessa brought out a small smile. "What was the name?" She whispered to Jeff.

"Lavender Parks."

"Mrs Parks." Vanessa extended her arms for a hug.

"How are you?"

"I'm good, thanks."

"And where's the birthday girl?"
