Talia's POV

When Leah left, a couple of days ago, I somehow expected us to stay in touch. I thought we'd see each other regularly to talk about what we went through, to talk about our future. I thought we'd make plans on how to move on. But none of that happened.

Leah stayed at her mom's place, she went to college, she lived her regular day-to-day life. Without me.

I went to work, I stayed at my house, I tried living my regular day-to-day life. However, whenever I'd see students talking together, I couldn't help but think about Leah. I thought about the time she was a student here, how easy things were back then. It's weird that things were much easier back then, while it was illegal... It's true that even seeing your partner for a short period of time every day, really keeps a relationship going. I wonder if that's why our marriage died down... Maybe we didn't see each other enough.

School had just ended but I was in no rush to get home. Why would I be? No one's waiting for me there. So instead, I stayed late and did some grading. At least this way, I finally get around all the paperwork.

As I was grading, the time went by. I could tell it was getting late when the blue sky outside, turned dark. Maybe it was time for me to go home?

I was startled by a knock on my classroom door. I looked up and saw Charlotte. "Hey."

She showed me a small smile. "Hey," She entered more. "Can I come in?"

I motioned to a chair near my desk.

She walked to the chair and put it in front of my desk. She then sat down on it. "So," She sighed. "Why are you still here at this time?"

I shrugged.

She eyed me. "Talia?"

I sighed. "I don't want to go home and be faced with my mistakes again."

She nodded slowly.

"I was stupid to treat Leah the way I did," I looked away. "I should've been there for her, I just..." I sighed yet again. "I don't know..."

"You pushed her away."

I slowly nodded.

"Why?"

I looked away, outside the window. "She was always so busy, I often felt like I was in her way," I gulped. "I felt like I was a burden to her, an obstacle on her way to her goal," I looked back at Charlotte. "So instead of facing my feelings, I pushed them aside and did the complete opposite."

"By going out and staying away as long as possible?"

I slowly nodded. "I know it was wrong," I sighed. "I just didn't know what else to do..." I looked down. "I guess we should've talked about it."

"Yes," She leaned closer. "You should have. And Leah even tried it too, I believe."

I slowly nodded.

"So why didn't you tell her back then how you felt?"

I gulped before looking her in the eyes. "Why would I have her worry about me? She had to focus on college."

"Talia," She placed her hand on mine. "You are her wife, you are her biggest treasure," She showed me a small smile. "Sure, she was busy, and sure she wasn't always there for you," Her smile increased. "But she would've dropped everything for you, and you know that."

"I know," I sighed. "I just didn't want to be a burden." I looked down, sniffling.

She squeezed my hand gently. "You'll never be a burden, you two are meant to be together," She smiled a bit. "You two are perfect for each other."

I slowly returned the smile. "Do you really believe so?"

"Of course," She smiled more. "Anyone who's lucky enough to witness this beautiful relationship will tell you the same."

"Thank you, Charlotte."

I got home, later that evening. By now, the dark sky was pitch black. I didn't really pay that much attention to the time, I was focused on something else. On someone else.

I dropped my stuff by the front door and walked to the kitchen. I went through the fridge and smiled. I took out ingredients for a nice pasta dish, my go-to meal to prepare.

I started preparing the meal and decorating the table. I put a candle in the middle and lit it. I put some rose petals on the table too. It looked amazing! One thing was missing though.

I went to sit down at the table and took my phone. I pressed my speed-dial button and waited. Then I heard the phone being picked up. "Leah?"

"Yes, T?"

I smiled, finally hearing her after so long. "How are you?"

She let out a breath. "Uhm, I'm fine," She yawned. "Why are you calling?"

I smiled more. "Well, I've thought about us, and I had a great conversation with Charlotte too after school. I just want to get everything back on track - "

"T - "

"So, I want to invite you for dinner so we can talk about it and - "

"T - "

"Maybe we can watch a movie too, I know you love that one movie with - "

"T!"

I shut my mouth and gulped. I hadn't expected her to yell at me...

She yawned again. "Have you seen the time?"

I frowned. What a weird question? "No..." I looked around for a clock but didn't find any. "Why?"

She sighed. "It's past 11..."

My mouth opened but nothing came out. I was stunned. How on earth did I miss the time? I knew it was later than usual but... That late? "R-really?"

"Yes," She yawned again. "I'm sorry but I'm not going to get out of bed for a meal and a talk," She yawned again. "I'm exhausted."

I gulped, I was overcome with sadness. "D-did I wake you up?"

She sighed. "We'll talk later, bye."

"Bye," I paused. "I love - "

She ended the call... I gulped again as I pulled my phone away from my ear and let my hands rest on my lap. I looked around at all my hard work, all for nothing. I sniffled but got up. I blew out the candle and put the pasta in the fridge.

I then walked upstairs and went to bed. Alone...
