Leah's POV
I knocked on the open door before entering the room. "Hey boys," I knelt down, only to sit down on the ground. I smiled at them. "What are you two doing?"
"We build big tower," Emil replied. He jumped up. "Very big!"
"Stop," Jin exclaimed, keeping Emil away from the blocks. Emil had almost hit it and made it fall. "Watch it."
Emil looked back at the tower. He took another block and wanted to place it on top but, because he was too excited, he couldn't take it slow and thus made the whole tower collapse. "Oops."
Jin sighed. He crossed his arms.
Emil looked at Jin. "Sorry."
Jin looked away.
I looked at Emil. "It's ok, tiger," I kissed his head. "Why don't you go get ready for bed?"
Emil looked at me, his eyes got bigger as excitement grew inside him. "With tata?"
"Sure," I smiled. "She'll love to help you."
He clapped his hands excitedly. "I go with tata!" He jumped around and left the room.
Jin tilted his head, he was thinking about something. "He can not do stairs."
I smiled at him. "Don't worry," I gently put my hand on his shoulder. "Tata was waiting in the hallway."
He slowly nodded, seemingly understanding.
I smiled at him.
"You talk with me," He said. "Alone."
"What makes you say that?" I smiled more. "Can't I just sit with you?"
He titled his head again. "You want Emil to go," He shrugged. "You talk with me alone."
I smiled a bit before nodding. "You're very smart," I looked at him. "I wanted to talk to you about what happened with grandma and grandpa."
He looked away briefly. "They not understand."
"What don't they understand?"
He looked at me. "Things."
I slowly nodded. "Jinnie," I started. I licked my lips, I was a bit unsure how my question would sound to him. The last thing I wanted was to scare him off or make him shut down. "How do you know 'love is love'?"
He titled his head.
"You know," I started, almost too fast. I wasn't sure whether he even remembered. Then again, this was Jin. He was really smart. "You said it to grandma."
Then he nodded.
"Well, how do you know that?"
He tilted his head to the side. Then he frowned, a reaction I rarely saw from him. "What is mute?"
I sighed as I feared this question. "I'll explain this, Jinnie, but can you first answer my question?"
He nodded, but the frown stayed on his face. "I read."
"You read it?"
He nodded.
"Where?"
The frown slowly disappeared, and he tilted his head again. "Computer."
I opened my mouth, ready to reply, but said nothing. I thought about his answer, about what he was trying to say. "My computer?"
He nodded.
I chuckled a bit. "You read it from my account," I said, more to myself. I shook my head, a smile on my face. I looked at him. "Thank you for explaining."
A small smile found its way onto his face. "Welcome."
I smiled.
"What is mute?" He suddenly asked.
I sighed. "What grandma said, wasn't nice," I started. "She's a bit upset because you don't talk to her."
He blinked a few times. "What is mute?"
I looked away briefly. If Emil would've asked me this, I would've come up with something easily. But with Jin... I looked back at him. His eyes observed me. I knew he was smart enough to see when I'd lie and when I'd be honest. He had knowledge. "A mute is a person that doesn't talk, react, or hear."
His mouth was open, it was clear he found this information interesting. He had learned something. "Not me." He concluded.
"Exactly," I smiled at him. "Grandma is just upset."
He tilted his head. "Why?"
"Because you don't talk to her."
He looked away briefly. He looked around the room, as if he was looking for something. He then, after several minutes, rested his eyes on mine. "I not want to talk."
I slowly nodded. "I know, Jinnie," I showed him a small smile. "It's ok."
He looked at me. "Why sad?"
I slowly nodded. He was right, and he knew he was. He understood people expected him to be 'normal'. But what is normal? Jin wasn't as talkative as Emil. But he was great the way he was. I looked at him. "They don't understand you yet," I replied honestly. "But I do."
He smiled. "Love you."
"I love you too, Jinnie," I then got up. "Let's get you ready for bed too."

I let out a deep breath when I got downstairs. I let myself fall on the couch.
T patted my leg. "How did it go? What did he say?"
"About?" Heather asked before taking a sip from her glass of wine.
I looked at her. "He talked back to T's mom."
Heather instantly seemed pleased. "What did he say?"
Eva nudged her, clearly trying to keep her at bay. She had yet to learn that Heather had a hard time holding back.
"T's mom was saying things like same-sex relationships were wrong, T should've been with a man..."
Heather nodded, rolling her eyes. "What else is new?"
I nodded. "So Jin replied with 'love is love'."
Heather raised her eyebrows. "I love that kid!"
I smiled. I looked at T but noticed she wasn't that happy. "Hey, what's wrong?"
She shrugged. "It's just sad how my mom hasn't accepted my life the way it is," She looked at me. "We've been together for years, you'd think she'd adjust. At least a little."
"Talia," Heather started. "Some people are too shallow. They have this nice little square they want to live in. Anything outside that square is too much to handle," She looked at T. "That's your mom."
T sighed but nodded.
Heather looked back at me. "What did the boy say?"
"He read it on my computer."
"From Wattpad?" T asked.
I nodded. "I must've left it open on the table and he read it," I shrugged. "He remembered it and said it."
"That means he knows what that means," Eva suddenly said. "Not only did he read it and remember it, he understood it."
Heather nodded before looking back at T and me. "I'll say it again, I'm honored to be his godmother."
I chuckled.
"Any child that stands their ground," She nodded, putting up her thumb. "He's doing well."
I smiled before looking at T. She didn't seem that convinced, and that bothered me. She didn't know Jin the way I did, perhaps this situation got to her more than she led on. Maybe she was slightly on her mom's side when it comes to Jin. After all, Jin speaks to me and Emil, but that's about it.
I guess I'll have to have another talk with my smart boy.
