Leah's POV
It was a real task to get T to go with me to this adoption center. I understood her fears, I could imagine them myself too, but it seemed she tried everything possible not to go.
Even when we did get there, it took us ages to finally get inside. She kept on dragging. It was either she forgot something, or she wanted to ask me something, or she wanted to check something on her phone... Anything was good not to get inside apparently.
When we finally did get inside, she got so quiet. She got shy almost. She grasped my arm tightly as we walked around the building with a staff member.
We got to see some of the children and some of the room. The playroom, the dining room... They gave us a nice little tour. All the while, T seemed very unsure about her presence in this building. I felt bad for seeing her this way...
But everything changed when we were about to leave... I was at the reception, finishing up with the woman while T was somewhere lingering around.
"Thank you so much for your time," I smiled at the woman, the staff member, who had just shown us around. "We appreciate this."
"It's my pleasure," She smiled back at me. "So are you two thinking about adopting a child?"
I slowly nodded. "That's the plan," I sighed a bit. "Eventually."
She slowly nodded.
"We suffered great losses," I gulped and looked down for a bit. "But it's my wife's biggest wish to be a mother."
The woman smiled a bit. "If her desire is really that big, I'm sure she'll be a mother one day."
I nodded.
"Where is she actually?"
I looked behind me, where I had last seen T, and saw she was gone. "T?" I frowned a bit. "T, where are you?"
"Maybe she went to the restroom?"
I gulped as I felt embarrassed for losing my wife here... "Can I look around for her?" This was so awkward! Damn it, T!
"Uhm, sure." The woman seemed unsure too. I bet this never happened before. I mean, who loses their wife in a place...?
We walked around the building. I was trying to look everywhere while not colliding with the children that were there. They often came to say hello, it was clear they wanted a real family.
As we kept looking around, I started feeling more and more embarrassing. Where was she? And how did this happen? How did we both lose track of her?
Then, at one of the rooms, we stopped. I stepped a bit forward, entering the room, to have a better look.
"Do you feel bettew?" A little boy asked T.
T was seated on the ground, in front of the little boy. She was holding a teddy bear. She nodded. "You're very good at making people feel at ease."
The little boy tilted his head to the side, not really understanding what T was saying.
"I feel better thanks to you." T rephrased.
The boy smiled instantly.
"T," I said, gaining both their attention. "What is this?"
T slowly got up and looked at me. "I wasn't sure about anything anymore and you were talking with our guide and," She gulped, looking down. "He found me," She motioned to the little boy. "And we talked."
I looked at the little boy and saw him smile at us. I couldn't help but smile back at him. I walked to him and knelt in front of him, getting on his eye level. "And what's this boy's name?"
