Talia's POV
I was in the kitchen, doing the dishes. We had just eaten breakfast. Leah went upstairs, as she always did after breakfast. Because of her disease, she always had to use the bathroom after we had eaten. I'd use this time to clean everything.
The boys were watching tv. They'd usually do that after we had breakfast. It was easier for me because I didn't have to worry about them.
"I'm back," Leah said as she came back downstairs after some time. She looked better. She went to sit down. She let out a deep breath. "I'm worried about today."
I frowned and went to sit down too. "Why? You're meeting up with your friends."
She looked at me. "Precisely for that reason."
I raised my eyebrows. "Baby, they're just your friends," I reached for her hands and held them in mine. "You don't have to worry about them. You'll have a great time."
She didn't seem convinced. She looked down, at our hands. She was caressing my hand.
"I guess I'm partly to blame," I said, gaining her attention. "I knew you weren't seeing them as much anymore but I didn't say anything, I didn't push you to meet up with them," I sighed deeply. "I'm sorry."
She shook her head. "Life happened," She stated. "I simply forgot," She looked at me. "It's sad but it's the truth."
I slowly nodded.
Right on cue, we heard the boys laugh. We both looked towards the source of the laughter and smiled. "This is why I forgot," She said, gaining my attention. "They're so important to me, I just want to spend as much time with them as possible. Life goes by so fast."
"I know, baby," I smiled a bit. "But the same goes for your friends. A lot can happen in the blink of an eye."
She sighed. She looked away briefly before looking back at me. "What are your plans for today?"
I smiled. "I'll watch our boys," I smiled more, just thinking about them made me so happy. "My friends are coming over later today."
She nodded. "Maybe I'll see them when I get home."
"Maybe."
She let out a breath and looked at the time, she sighed before getting up. "I better get going."
I looked at her and got really upset. She was so worried about meeting her friends. It seemed that just going there was bringing her mood down. I wish I could do something, I should've pushed her to meet with them sooner. It's all my fault...
Instead, I nodded. "You'll enjoy yourself."
She nodded but I could tell she didn't believe it herself. She came to me and kissed me. "I love you."
I smiled at her. "I love you too."
______________________________
The whole day I kept thinking about Leah. I wanted to know whether she was having a great time or whether her friends were giving her a hard time for her lack of involvement the past months...
I really had to stop myself from calling her or even sending her a text. I knew that if I were to do that, I'd interrupt her. I just really wanted her to have a good time.
The boys helped though. They seemd to notice my mood was a bit down and wanted to involve me in their play. They had all these kinds of crazy ideas for plays which I didn't understand, but strangely enough they understood each other. It was amazing to see how well they communicated together.
Around 3 in the afternoon, my friends arrived. Heather had asked us whether we could meet. I knew Mary, Charlotte and I were equally curious about the reason why she wanted to meet.
"So," Charlotte started as we all were seated. She looked from Mary and me to Heather. She clearly was ready to find out. "You wanted us to meet, Heather."
Heather simply nodded. It was a small gesture, one that suggested she wasn't feeling all that great. She looked absent, sad, worried. Something was wrong, I could see it now.
"Is there a particular reason for that?" Mary tried.
Heather looked from Mary to the ground. She shook her head. "Just thought it would be fun."
Charlotte and Mary nodded but I knew better. Something was really wrong.
"How about I get us some drinks?" I suggested, trying to get the spotlight off her.
Charlotte and Mary nodded while Heather didn't seem to have heard me. She didn't respond at all.
I frowned but got up anyway. I walked to the kitchen and sighed deeply. I was really worried. I hadn't seen her like this in a very long time. It was clear she wanted us to know she wasn't doing well, otherwise she wouldn't have called for this meeting. But why isn't she speaking up?
I returned with the drinks and handed everyone their glass. Then I went to sit back down too.
"Where's Leah?" Heather asked as she was looking around.
"She's with her friends," I said and put my glass down. "She hadn't seen them in a very long time."
"It's good she's meeting up with them," Charlotte said, nodding. "I was wondering why she never left the house." She chuckled right after.
I chuckled too. "She wants to focus on our boys, and she kind of forgot about her friends."
"That's sad." Mary concluded.
I slowly nodded before looking back at Heather. She was, once again, looking down. She seemed so deep in thoughts. I really wondered if she even heard my response...
Suddenly, the front door opened. We all looked at it, even though it was clear it was Leah coming home. "Hey," She said as she saw us. She walked to us and greeted everyone. She then sat down next to me. "How is everyone?"
"Good." Charlotte replied.
"All good." Mary responded.
We all looked at Heather, who still hadn't said a word. She was still looking down, seemingly drowning in her own thoughts.
Leah looked at me and with that one look I knew she too noticed Heather wasn't doing well. She frowned and looked back at Heather. "You're awfully quiet, Heather," She gently placed her hand on Heather's knee, finally gaining her attention. "Is everything alright?"
She looked straight at Leah, her facial expression didn't change but I could tell she and Leah were communicating in some way.
Leah looked down for a bit before nodding. "Whatever it is," She then got a hold of my hand, squeezing it. "I think you should just say it."
Heather took a deep breath and nodded. She gulped before looking directly at me. She kept looking at me for a while before dropping the bomb: "Eva is pregnant."
