Third person's POV

"I don't get it," Heather said as she helped Eva sit at the kitchen table. She then went to sit down too. "They just left, like that."

While Eva was listening to Heather's complaints, she also started to take some items off the table for breakfast. She enjoyed the wide variety of food items Heather always provided for her.

Heather sighed. "They're stupid." She settled with.

At that, Eva looked up. "They're not stupid, Heather," She put her breakfast down and looked at Heather. "They're hurt."

Heather crossed her arms and looked away, her way of avoiding a difficult subject. And Eva knew.

"I'm not angry at you," She said softly, reaching for Heather's hand, squeezing her hand softly.

Heather looked back at her wife. She sighed softly. "I didn't mean to hurt them."

"I know that," Eva replied softly. "And I'm sure your friends know that too."

Heather huffed. "They were really angry with me."

"Rightfully so," Eva said, making Heather look down. "What you said was hurtful and it could've caused difficult conversations between Leah and Talia."

"I know," Heather gulped. "I didn't mean to..."

"I know," Eva said softly. "It's good you understand."

Heather nodded.

Eva continued eating her breakfast. Even though she could see her wife was struggling with what had happened the evening before, she couldn't help herself, she was hungry. Plus, she wanted Heather to think about her actions, to feel the consequences. Because what she had done, was wrong.

Heather sighed. "Why do I keep messing up?" She looked at her wife, hoping she could help her understand. "Why do I keep bringing people down?" She looked down then, remembering what Charlotte had said the night before: "Why do I feel the need to make people upset?" She said softly.

Eva looked at her wife. She could see Heather was going through a really hard time right now, but she didn't want to intervene. She wanted Heather to really come to the answer herself. Because she'd never learn otherwise.

Heather gulped. "I guess I'm just an idiot."

"Wrong answer."

Heather looked up at her wife, who was still enjoying breakfast. Eva's eyes were watching Heather closely. And Heather knew she had to figure this out on her own.

"I guess it's just easier for me to be mean."

Eva tilted her head a bit. "How come?"

Heather shrugged. "I guess I learned that throughout my life."

"Where?"

Heather sighed. "Kids can be so mean," She gulped and looked down. "I wasn't always harsh and brutal, I once was a girl who smiled at the world."

Eva turned her body towards Heather, the therapist in her took over. "What changed?"

"I got picked on," Heather simply replied. "I guess most people got bullied so it's no excuse."

Eva reached for her wife's hand and held it in hers. "I didn't know you were bullied." She said softly. For Eva, this was a surprise. She always saw her wife as this strong-minded, stubborn, hard, but loyal person. She never stopped to think there may be more to the root of that behavior.

Heather nodded. "I learned that if I'm mean to people, they can't hurt me."

Eva nodded.

"I know it's wrong," Heather sighed. "I'm trying to teach myself to change back to who I was before."

Eva smiled a bit. "I think it's very commendable that you're trying to change your behavior. It shows just how much you have grown these past years."

Heather smiled too.

"You have to remember that even though change is good, it does take time for the effects," Eva explained. "It's not only your behavior that needs to change," She looked at Heather. "Your friends need to adjust to it too and change their view of you."

Heather nodded slowly. "I guess I never thought about that."

"That's why you have me," Eva smiled proudly. She looked around. "So shall we watch some tv?"

Leah's POV

I was in the park, watching the environment and the people. I enjoyed the escape out of the town and the cars, just to enjoy nature. The small space of nature we have.

I had found a nice spot in the grass on higher ground, looking down at the park. I figured this spot would give us some privacy.

"Leah?"

I looked to my right. "Hi, Cam."

Cam seemed unsure, uncomfortable almost. But she was looking at me, unlike last time. "Hi."

I patted the spot next to me.

Cam walked to me, it was clear she didn't know what to do. It saddened me how we seemingly had become strangers to one another. As she had taken a seat, she looked at me.

I licked my lips. "I wanted to talk about last time," I said, gaining a nod from her. "I felt very upset about our last encounter," I thought about my words. "It almost seemed like you wanted to get away as fast as possible. I felt like I was interrupting you."

She looked away, sighing.

"I know we haven't seen each other as much as before," I said, gaining a glance from her. "I know it's my fault for not reaching out."

She looked down. "I could've reached out too."

I looked away. I breathed out, enjoying the soft breeze that came up. "I saw your post."

"Oh..." She looked away, I could tell she felt uncomfortable about the topic. I wondered if she felt that way because I, her ex-girlfriend, was asking or because she didn't get to tell me herself.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I couldn't help but sound annoyed, like a jealous ex-girlfriend... Yuk!

She shrugged. "I don't know."

I looked away from her, letting that short answer sink in. I guess our friendship really had taken a hit. Maybe I should've done things differently. I put my family and T first, for everyone. But maybe I did it too much. What if I lost Cam, and my friends because of that...?

I looked back at her and saw her look away as well. It was clear to me that this was our new normal. Things were different now. The close friendship we had, it was gone.

"Ok," I got up, dusting myself off before looking at her. "Thanks for coming anyway," I started walking away before turning around once. "And Cam," She had gotten up too and looked at me. "I'm truly happy for you and your girlfriend, I wish you the best."

And with that, I left her.
