Leah's POV

This was it. The moment I had been waiting for all year... Summer break! Finally... Finally, the school year was over and I could relax for 2 months. I could sleep as much as I wanted. I could do whatever I wanted. I could stay up for as long as I wanted... I could live again.

This year in college was especially hard for me. Not only was this the year I discovered I had an auto-immune illness that I'll have for the rest of my life, but I also had to help T through the miscarriages, and the adoption procedure for Emil started... It was a lot.

However hard this past year might have been, I wouldn't change any of it. These experiences how bad they may be, were just that: experiences. I was meant to go through those. It was meant to make me grow as a person and get stronger in my relationship with T. So, in a weird way, I was thankful for them.

I got home from my final day at college and suddenly seemed to have no energy left. It was as if I had lost all the energy when I left the college. I had nothing left.

I walked to the couch and let myself fall, belly first, on it. Then I just laid there. I didn't move, I didn't do anything, I just laid there. And I was content this way. I could spend some time here, doing nothing...

Just as I was almost asleep, the doorbell rang. I groaned. I wasn't going to get up, for nothing. Whoever that was, they could come back some other time.

The doorbell rang again. I groaned but realized this probably was important... With the little energy I had left, I dragged myself to the front door. I took one deep breath before opening the door.

"Mrs.Jacobs?"

I looked at the mailman. He had a huge envelope in his hand. "Uhm, yes," I looked at him again. "That's me."

He gave me the envelope and made me sign a paper. "Thank you, have a good day." He then left.

I nodded and got back inside. Now, what was this thing? I walked to the couch again and sat down on it this time. I looked at the envelope. It was addressed to T and me. I then looked at the sender's information. My eyes widened as I saw this was from the adoption center.

I gulped and reached for the opening but then stopped. I shouldn't open this without T, should I? I should wait.

I put the envelope on the coffee table and looked at it. How was I going to leave that be? I wanted to know what was inside it. I wanted to know if we got through. I was so curious!

Talia's POV

The end of the school year. To students, this means: summer break. To teachers, this means: having a drink and chatting for hours.

I was at school. We had a reception with wine and cocktails. But also snacks like chips were present. We used this time to say proper goodbyes and to wish each other a good summer break. We'd be able to talk about anything. It was a get-together. It was nice.

I was taking a sip from my glass of red wine while I was listening to some of my colleagues. They were unleashing some of the stress they had from this past school year. It was also the right time to do that, before you'd go home...

"Hey," Heather said, invading the conversation. It was something so typical of her that the colleague didn't even fight her. He just retreated and went somewhere else. "So, any plans for the summer?"

I glared at her, hoping she'd get the hint but, when nothing came, I sighed. "No," I sighed again. "Not really."

"Boring!" She looked around, I wondered if she was this way with people she didn't know yet... Imagine how scary it must be to meet her...

Suddenly, my phone rang. I frowned but looked at it. I saw Leah was calling me. Since I was still at school, I declined the call. Leah knew that I wouldn't answer as long as I'm at work.

"Who was it?" Heather asked, having no problem invading my privacy.

I put my phone away, back in my purse. "Leah." I simply said.

Heather nodded, she seemed to know enough by that answer. She looked away briefly before looking back at me when my phone rang again. "It seems she really needs you..."

I took my phone and saw it was Leah again. I frowned. "What would she want?"

"Answer the phone, then you'll know." Heather smirked.

I nudged her before passing by her. I rushed to find a quieter spot. "Baby?"

"T," She paused a bit. "You have to come home."

I raised my eyebrows. "What's wrong? Did anything happen? Are you feeling bad?"

"No," She chuckled a bit, but I could tell something was bothering her. "We have received a letter."

I sighed. "Leah, that letter can wait till I - "

"It's from the adoption center," She gulped. "It's a huge envelope."

My heart stopped when I heard that. The envelope finally came. We'd finally know if we could adopt Emil. "I'm on my way." I said and hung up.

I put my phone away in my purse and then made my way back to the crowd of my colleagues. I smiled at them, pretending everything was alright. I went to Charlotte, as I saw her first.

"I have to go," I said quietly. "We got the letter from the center."

Her eyes widened immediately, and she nodded. "Good luck."

I said my goodbyes to my colleagues before rushing to my car. I wanted to go home so fast yet my feet didn't seem to catch up to my desire.

I drove home, probably too fast than was allowed. I parked and rushed inside. "Baby," I breathed deeply in and out. I saw her on the couch, the huge envelope on the table. I walked to her and sat down next to her. "Is that...?"

She nodded. "It came right when I got home," She took the envelope. "I thought we should open it together," She looked at me then. "Read it together."

"Yeah," I nodded and gulped. I couldn't help but feel nervous. Everything depended on this letter. If they saw us unfit, we wouldn't be able to adopt Emil. It all depended on whether they could look past our mistakes and difficult times. I looked down. "I hope they won't look too much at my difficult past..."

She looked at me. "We can't change it now anyway," She then opened the envelope. "Do you want to read or shall I?"

I motioned her she could read, I was just unable to say any words.

She took the papers that were inside. She started reading the letter. Her facial expression changed visibly and several emotions washed over her face. I kept worrying, I kept fearing, I was dying here!

She finally put the letter down, indicating she had read it all.

"And," I gulped again. I just couldn't handle another setback. This had to work out. It just had to. "What did they decide?"
