Talia's POV
One thing I loved most about being a teacher: the breaks in between classes. I had two 20-minute breaks and one lunch break of an hour. Those gave me the time I needed to catch up on work but also to just relax for a bit.
Often, I'd have these breaks in the teachers' lounge. Today, however, I was in my classroom. I was eating an apple, the classic fruit for a teacher, as I heard a knock on my door. I looked up and smiled when I saw Charlotte and Mary. "Hey, come in."
They smiled at me as they walked to my desk. Charlotte sat down in the same chair she used last night, Mary took a chair from one of the student's desks.
"So," Charlotte said as Mary sat down too. "How was last night? Did Leah enjoy your surprise?"
My smile faded as I looked down. "It didn't really go as planned..."
"What happened?" Mary asked. "She showed up, right?"
I slowly shook my head.
"Oh Talia," Charlotte said as she and Mary leaned in closer. "We're so sorry, did she say why?"
I sighed. "I was so caught up in making everything perfect for her that it took me quite some time..." I looked at them, they seemed confused. "I called her to invite her over," I sighed. I felt so stupid already. "At 11 pm..."
They both tried holding in their laughter but failed miserably.
"Thanks a lot..." I took a new test and started grading it.
"I'm sorry," Mary chuckled a bit. "It's just so cute."
I looked up at them and saw them both nod. "Cute? How? I made a complete fool out of myself. I woke her up to invite her for dinner," I sighed. "I'm so stupid."
"No, Talia," Charlotte said, finally having stopped laughing. "It was a very sweet gesture, I'm sure Leah agrees."
"I wouldn't know," I looked down. "I haven't spoken to her since."
"What time does she arrive here, by train?" Mary asked.
I shrugged. "Probably around 4.30, why?"
"Go get her," She smiled at me. "Wait for her and bring her home. She'll love that you do this for her."
"Do you think so?"
They both nodded.
"I don't know," I looked down, at my phone. I could easily call her or text her to ask her if she'd like that, however, something prevented me from doing so. I didn't want to bother her, I didn't want to interrupt anything. So I decided to not contact her at all. "I'll see tonight, I guess."
They slowly nodded but seemed to understand my uncertainty about the whole matter.
"Uhm..." I gulped. "Did any of you talk to Heather lately?"
They raised their eyebrows. "Didn't you?" Mary asked. "She is your best friend after all."
"I didn't speak to her, I wanted some time for myself, you know?" I said to which Mary nodded, seemingly understanding me. Charlotte, however, seemed to know the real reason. I wonder if she talked to Leah more than she led on. It wouldn't surprise me, they were close friends.
"Well, you know her," Mary smiled. "She's going out, she's meeting people..."
I nodded. So Heather was acting normal, I was right: that kiss meant nothing. I do however wonder why she did it. I knew she had no feelings for me, but why did she do it then? I wonder if it has something to do with her dislike towards Leah... Maybe I should confront Heather?
"Hey," Charlotte said, pulling me out of my thoughts. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah," I showed them a small smile. "I am."

After school, I had decided to wait for Leah. I'd pick her up at the train station, she'd love that. But, that meant I'd have to waste an hour at school. So I was roaming around the hallways, trying to find something to keep me busy, when I suddenly bumped into none other than Heather...
She and I looked at each other before she knelt to take her stuff. Unlike before, I didn't help her. I wasn't pleased with her behavior, and she knew.
She got back up, her stuff in her hands, and looked at me. "What?"
I raised my eyebrows, I was a bit taken back that she would be so direct. "We need to talk," I said, but Heather turned around and started walking away. "Heather," I said, trying to keep up with her. "We need to talk about what happened between us," I rushed to get her arm. "Heather."
She shrugged my hand off and continued to walk away from me, a sign of guilt, I'd call that.
"We need to talk about what has happened."
"I don't know what you're talking about." She said.
"The kiss," I said and made her stop in her tracks. She looked at me, shocked to hear me say it. "We need to talk about it."
She looked left and right before motioning me to follow her. We walked to her classroom. Once inside, she closed the door and put her stuff down on her desk. She let out a deep breath while leaning on her desk, her head down.
"Why did you do it?" I asked, immediately gaining her attention. "We both know we have no feelings for one another," I stepped closer to her. "So why did you do it?"
She sighed. She opened her mouth but closed it immediately. She shook her head and looked away, as if something was stopping her from telling me the truth.
"Heather," I put my hand on her shoulder, gaining her attention once more. "Please talk to me."
She looked me in the eyes. "I've told you time and time again," She paused looking away for a bit before looking at me again. "I don't believe Leah is good for you."
I raised my eyebrows. "Why are you so against her?"
She crossed her arms and looked outside the window. "I just don't think she deserves you, that's all."
I sighed, realizing she wasn't going to give me a good reason. But, as I already knew, she had no feelings for me. "So you kissed me so that Leah and I would break up?"
She didn't look at me but she nodded.
I let out a breath. "How dare you?"
She looked at me again. "I just don't trust her, Talia. She's no good."
I stepped back. "Why don't you come to me when you have some evidence to back you up?" I then left the classroom.
