Talia's POV

Leah took the papers that were inside. She started reading the letter. Her facial expression changed visibly and several emotions washed over her face. I kept worrying, I kept fearing, I was dying here!

She finally put the letter down, indicating she had read it all.

"And," I gulped again. I just couldn't handle another setback. This had to work out. It just had to. "What did they decide?"

She didn't answer immediately, she took the letter again and seemingly read it again.

"Leah?"

She didn't respond.

"Leah?"

She still didn't respond... I was going crazy here!

"Leah!"

She finally looked up at me.

"Please," I gulped. I couldn't take this uncertainty anymore. My heart was beating like crazy. I could barely breathe. I just needed to know. I just needed good news... "What did they say?"

She looked at the letter again before looking back at me. "It seems they don't think we're good parents..."

When she said that, my heart stopped. He... He's my child. How can they not see that? How can they decide I'm not a good mother? How... I looked down, I was done. All hope was lost. There was no point anymore...

"It says: 'Not only are you two fit to be good parents to Emil, but you two will also be great parents to any children you wish to adopt.'", She then looked at me, a smile on her face. "They passed us as 'great parents', baby."

It took a moment to register what she had said. But, when it came to me, I got up. I nudged her before snatching the letter out of her hands. I read it quickly before nudging her again. "I seriously thought we failed their test!"

She started chuckling.

"Oh, you think this is funny?" I put the letter down and got on top of her. I started tickling her. "Who's funny now?"

She was laughing hysterically, pleading with me to stop occasionally.

After some time, I got off her and took the letter again. I let out a happy sigh. "Great parents..." I sighed and looked up. "We'd be great parents..."

"We would be," She said, wrapping her arm around me. "And we'll show that to Emil."

I looked at her. "I can't believe we can adopt him." I looked down then, feeling tears form in my eyes. I sniffled.

Leah immediately made me look at her. "Baby," She caressed my face, wiping the tears away. "Why are you crying?"

I couldn't help but smile. "I'm just so happy," I gulped. "We'll have a child together," I sniffled. "I'll finally be a mother."

She nodded and smiled. "You'll be a great mother."

I chuckled a bit before putting the letter on the table again. I tried to calm down, I guess that news did a lot to my body. I felt so emotional. I felt so relieved. I felt so happy.

"So," Leah said, caressing my back gently. "When do you want to get him?"

My head shot towards her. "Now."

She chuckled. "Obviously we can't do that now, baby."

"Why not?" I checked the time on her phone. "It's only 7 pm. They'll still be open." I said and got up, wanting to go to the center already.

"No," But Leah pulled me back down. "They're actually closed now," She held me, as if she was afraid I'd try to rush out the house again. "Maybe we can focus on getting the things he needs before he actually gets here."

I frowned. "The room is already full of furniture, baby," I shrugged. "What else does he need?"

She smiled at me, I could see how this news changed her too. The look in her eyes... It was different. Somehow it seemed lighter, more filled with life. I guess we both wanted this to work out. "How about toys, clothes, food," She then seemed to think about something. "Would he still need diapers?"

I thought about it for a bit. "I have no clue," I looked away, at nothing in particular. "Maybe we can ask the center if he wears them," I looked at her again. "Or we get them anyway, just to be sure. A change of house could trigger something."

She smiled at me.

"What's so funny?"

"No, nothing," She leaned in closer, kissing me softly. "You already sound like a mother."

I smiled and looked away, already feeling my cheeks reddening.

"Let's go shopping for him tomorrow, and we'll get home after that."

I nodded.

Leah's POV

I could tell how eager T was for this day. How she longed for this day. How she desired this for so long. This was what she needed, what she wanted. And I was so happy to be a part of this, to witness this.

This morning, she couldn't get out of the house fast enough. We had to hurry, she'd say, because Emil was waiting for us. I barely was able to finish my breakfast before she pulled me with her to the car.

On our way to the store, T was going over everything we needed, even though we had written it all down... It seemed she really didn't want to forget anything...

Going shopping for a child, a real child, that's different. When we went shopping for our unborn babies, we didn't know them yet. We didn't know what they looked like, we didn't know what they might like, we didn't know their gender... Here, we knew why we got the things, and for who.

We paid and went to the car, getting everything in the trunk. T was urging me to hurry, to rush. She couldn't hold herself anymore, she had to get to Emil. He was waiting for us...

I decided it was best I drove us there, since I feared T might not be focused enough on the road right now. And I was right. All the way over there, she kept urging me to go faster, to hurry. Thankfully one of us used their brain.

When we arrived, T rushed out. She seemed like a child on Christmas morning... I hurried after her and saw her stand at the reception with the lady from the center. "Hello," I said, noticing T couldn't stand still from the excitement. I wonder what this lady might think of this... "We're here to adopt Emil."

The lady smiled and nodded, I figured she knew we'd get him. "Let's go to my office and arrange the paperwork."

I nodded but noticed how T wanted to see Emil. She was looking for him, like a dog looking for its owner.

"Baby," I said, gaining her attention. "I think it's good we both hear this before we get to him, right?"

She sighed but nodded.

"We'll go get him right after," I kissed her cheek. "I promise."

"Ok." She smiled a bit and followed me and the lady to the office.
